We are looking for a detail-oriented Bookkeeper to join our client accounting services team and manage day-to-day bookkeeping for a portfolio of client accounts. Position Summary The Bookkeeper will be responsible for maintaining accurate and up-to-date financial records for a portfolio of JSH clients across a variety of industries. This role handles day-to-day bookkeeping tasks such as transaction recording, accounts payable and receivable, bank and credit card reconciliations, and preparation of monthly financial statements, and serves as a regular point of contact for assigned clients. This is a client-facing role supporting multiple accounts, not an internal firm-operations position. Key Responsibilities Manage day-to-day bookkeeping for an assigned portfolio of clients across multiple industries. Record financial transactions and maintain accurate general ledgers for each client. Reconcile client bank, credit card, and other balance sheet accounts on a monthly basis.
Process client accounts payable:
enter and pay vendor invoices, track due dates, and manage cash disbursements.
Process client accounts receivable:
generate invoices, track payments, and follow up on outstanding balances. Process payroll for clients as needed, ensuring timely and accurate payment and related tax filings. Prepare monthly and year-end financial statements (profit & loss, balance sheet) for client review. Serve as a day-to-day point of contact for assigned clients, answering bookkeeping questions and resolving discrepancies. Maintain organized, audit-ready financial records and supporting documentation for each client engagement. Categorize and reconcile client expenses, receipts, and credit card statements. Coordinate with clients and with JSH's CPAs/senior accountants to support tax preparation and year-end close. Identify and flag discrepancies, cash flow concerns, or process improvements for clients. Maintain strict confidentiality of client financial and personnel information. Manage multiple client deadlines simultaneously and prioritize workload accordingly. Qualifications High school diploma required; Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field preferred. 2+ years of bookkeeping or accounting experience; experience managing multiple client accounts or a client portfolio strongly preferred (e.g., at an accounting or bookkeeping firm). Proficiency with QuickBooks (Online or Desktop) required; comfort working across multiple company files/clients. Working knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Office 365. Solid understanding of basic accounting principles (debits/credits, account reconciliation, accrual vs. cash basis). Experience processing payroll (e.g., ADP, Gusto, QuickBooks Payroll) is a plus. Strong client service skills — comfortable communicating directly with clients by phone and email. Strong attention to detail and accuracy in data entry and reporting. Excellent organizational and time-management skills; able to manage competing deadlines across multiple clients. High level of integrity and discretion when handling confidential client financial information. Compensation & Benefits Competitive salary, commensurate with experience. Health insurance and other benefits (details to be provided during interview). Paid time off and paid holidays. Professional, collaborative office environment in Saint Charles, working across a variety of clients and industries.
