JOB SUMMARY
The Bookkeeper is a key member of the finance team, responsible for day-to-day financial operations including accounts payable, payroll, and financial tracking for ReStore retail operations. Reporting to the Director of Finance, this role ensures the accuracy, reliability, and regulatory compliance of the organization's accounting practices in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP). The ideal candidate is highly detail-oriented, organized, and trustworthy, with strong time management skills and the ability to thrive in a team-oriented, metrics-driven environment. The bookkeeper must have a commitment to the mission of Habitat for Humanity which seeks to put God's love into action by bringing people together to build homes, communities, and hope.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES
1. Accounts Payable Process accounts payable transactions in a timely manner, ensuring accurate coding, proper approver sign-off, and organized documentation (invoices, receipts, files) Set up new vendors and respond to vendor/customer inquiries regarding invoices and payments Reconcile employee credit card bills and receipts Assist with annual 1099 reporting Support monthly financial reporting and analysis for the Finance Committee and Board Assist the Director of Finance with mortgage reporting/administration, insurance analysis, and ReStore accounting as needed Coordinate with external auditors during the annual audit Collaborate with department heads to track project costs, revenue, profitability, and budgets Identify opportunities to improve financial processes 2. Human Resource Responsibilities Support onboarding of new employees (I-9s, tax documents, benefits enrollment, employee handbook review) Maintain employment files in compliance with applicable laws Submit time reports to the payroll processor and process bi-weekly/semi-monthly payroll 3. Retail Operations Finance Reconcile daily POS reports and cash deposits from ReStore; investigate discrepancies between POS and bank deposits Track retail revenue, inventory-related costs, and sales tax Assist with inventory valuation and cost-of-goods-sold tracking Prepare monthly retail financial summaries for leadership 4. Other duties as assigned.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Approximately 20-25 hours per week The Habitat office is open 8:30 am - 4:30 pm, Monday through Friday, with occasional evening/weekend hours and extra time needed around payroll and month-end close Primarily indoor work, but occasional outdoor work
Physical Requirements:
Must be able to see, hear, and speak. Intermittent sitting and standing, and occasionally stooping. Must be able to operate computer, keyboard, and other office equipment; Occasional light lifting up to 25 lbs. The noise level in the work environment is typically low to moderate.
REQUIREMENTS FOR EMPLOYMENT 1.

Education and Professional Experience:
Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field (or equivalent experience) 2+ years of bookkeeping experience, including accounts payable and payroll processing; nonprofit experience preferred Strong understanding of fund accounting and nonprofit financial practices, including audit support Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint); familiarity with QuickBooks a plus; experience with Financial Edge (Blackbaud) preferred Retail/POS reconciliation experience a plus Ability to handle confidential information with discretion and build positive relationships with donors, sponsors, and community members Experience in affordable housing, community development, or construction operations preferred 3. Other Requirements Pass an FBI background check
COMPENSATION
Salary is commensurate with experience and knowledge. Life Insurance Flexible schedule
