Job Description

Accounts Payable Specialist | Overland Park, KS Contract-to-Hire | $24-28ph. LHH is working with a construction company seeking an experienced Accounts Payable Specialist to join its accounting team. This role is responsible for processing high-volume invoices, maintaining vendor relationships, supporting project accounting functions, and ensuring accurate and timely payments. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, organized, and experienced working in a fast-paced construction environment.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Process and code vendor invoices accurately and efficiently Review invoices for proper approvals, supporting documentation, and coding Match invoices to purchase orders, contracts, and receive documents when applicable Maintain accurate records of accounts payable transactions and vendor files Prepare weekly check runs, ACH payments, and wire transfers Reconcile vendor statements and research discrepancies Communicate with vendors regarding payment status and invoice issues Assist with month-end closing activities, including AP accruals and reporting Review sales and use tax charges for accuracy Support project managers and operations teams by responding to invoice and payment inquiries Ensure compliance with company policies, internal controls, and accounting procedures Assist with 1099 preparation and year-end reporting activities
QUALIFICATIONS
2+ years of Accounts Payable experience, preferably within construction, engineering, contracting, or related industries Strong understanding of full-cycle accounts payable processes Experience handling high-volume invoice processing Knowledge of purchase orders, subcontractor invoices, lien waivers, and job costing preferred Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and accounting/ERP systems Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills Strong problem-solving and communication abilities Ability to prioritize multiple deadlines in a fast-paced environment Construction accounting experience Familiarity with job cost accounting Understanding of AIA billing, subcontractor documentation, and construction payment processes
Pay Details:
