This role is ideal for someone who enjoys working independently, takes ownership of assigned clients, and is comfortable managing multiple sets of books and recurring deadlines. The Bookkeeper will work closely with CPAs and other members of our accounting team to ensure each client's books are accurate, reconciled, and up to date each month. Responsibilities
  • Manage monthly bookkeeping for a portfolio of clients across a variety of industries.
  • Maintain client accounting records in QuickBooks Online and QuickBooks Desktop.
  • Reconcile bank, credit card, loan, and other balance sheet accounts to monthly statements.
  • Review and categorize transactions and identify unusual, duplicate, or missing activity.
  • Record payroll activity and reconcile payroll reports to the general ledger.
  • Record loan payments, fixed asset purchases, owner contributions and distributions, and other recurring transactions.
  • Manage accounts payable and pay client bills as needed.
  • Review accounts receivable and accounts payable balances and follow up on outstanding items.
  • Prepare and post adjusting and recurring journal entries.
  • Review the general ledger and investigate discrepancies or balances that do not appear reasonable.
  • Maintain supporting documentation for significant transactions and account balances.
  • Complete month-end bookkeeping on a timely basis and provide monthly financial reports.
  • Communicate the status of assigned clients and unresolved items to a CPA or supervisor each month.
  • Assist with year-end bookkeeping and preparation of clean accounting records for income tax return preparation.
  • Communicate professionally with clients to obtain statements, payroll reports, invoices, and other necessary information. What We're Looking For
  • Prior professional bookkeeping or accounting experience.
  • Strong working knowledge of QuickBooks Online.
  • Experience with QuickBooks Desktop.
  • Experience performing bank and credit card reconciliations.
  • Understanding of general ledger accounting, debits and credits, and basic financial statements.
  • Experience recording and reconciling payroll.
  • Experience with accounts payable and bill payment.
  • Strong attention to detail and the ability to recognize when something does not look right.
  • Ability to manage multiple clients and recurring monthly deadlines.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and follow-through skills.
  • Ability to work independently while knowing when to bring questions or unusual items to a CPA.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Excel.
  • Experience working in a CPA firm, public accounting firm, or outsourced bookkeeping environment is strongly preferred.
