Job Description

Job Overview Greiner Orthopedics is a small orthopedic practice seeking a dependable, detail-oriented person to help with medical billing, accounts receivable, insurance claims, and patient accounts. This is not strictly a billing or coding position. You'll work across several parts of our office, including insurance verification, authorizations, patient questions, phone calls, and general administrative tasks. We're looking for someone who notices when a claim, payment, or insurance requirement does not look right, researches the issue, and helps resolve it. Responsibilities Review patient accounts, charges, documentation, and claims for accuracy and completeness. Enter charges and prepare, submit, and correct professional claims using eClinicalWorks and related billing systems. Work billing queues, open tasks, unbilled reports, clearinghouse rejections, and accounts receivable reports. Follow up on unpaid, rejected, and denied claims; research issues and submit corrections, reconsiderations, or appeals as needed. Contact insurance companies to resolve coverage, claim, and payment issues. Review payments and adjustments, reconcile account discrepancies, and assist with cash posting, credit balances, and overpayments. Identify and bill secondary insurance when appropriate. Speak with patients about insurance benefits, estimated costs, statements, balances, and payment options; follow up on outstanding balances as needed. Verify eligibility and benefits and assist with imaging and procedure authorizations, including coverage requirements for hyaluronic acid (HA) injections. Use a working knowledge of CPT, ICD-10, and modifiers to spot possible errors and research coding or payer questions. Follow up with providers and staff when documentation is needed to process a claim. Identify recurring denials or reimbursement issues and bring them to management's attention. Answer incoming calls, scan documents, assist with general office duties, and protect patient confidentiality. Qualifications At least one year of medical billing, medical insurance, or related medical office experience is highly preferred. Relevant medical billing or coding education may be considered in place of experience. Working knowledge of medical insurance claims, CPT, ICD-10, and modifiers, or relevant education with the ability to apply these concepts with training. Willingness to speak clearly and respectfully with patients about benefits, balances, and payment options, and to communicate with insurance companies by phone. Strong attention to detail, organization, problem-solving, time management, and customer service. Basic knowledge of medical terminology and proficiency with computers and Microsoft Office. High school diploma or equivalent. Coding certification is not required. Orthopedic experience and familiarity with eClinicalWorks (eCW) are preferred, but not required.
