An Accounting Clerk keeps records of accounts and financial transactions. Works for a business or provides bookkeeping services for several smaller organizations or individuals. Provides information for financial and tax reports completed by an accountant.
The Accounting Clerk is responsible for performing a variety of accounting and administrative duties that support our financial operations including processing payments, preparing deposits, maintaining accounting records, and assisting with monthly reporting. A successful individual in this position will be detail oriented, able to work independently, and be resourceful with a strong tenacity to solve problems. This is an hourly non-exempt position reporting to the manager of accounting.
Responsibilities & Duties:
Prepare and process the monthly billing cycle, including generating recurring customer invoices, applying rate and quantity changes, and releasing invoices according to the established billing calendar. Enter and process non-recurring billing, including shipping charges, travel expenses, professional services, and other miscellaneous charges. Process accounts payable, ensuring appropriate approvals, accurate coding, timely payment and proper documentation. Research and resolve billing discrepancies and respond to billing inquiries. Prepare and process sales tax returns and remittance. Complete month-end account reconciliation, billing and closing procedures. Process accounting activities for related entities, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, daily sales, cash handling and deposits, and bank reconciliations. Create and maintain accurate accounting records and support documentation. Actively maintain internal processes and procedures continually looking for improvements. Provide back-up support to others in the department as needed. Assist with the successful execution of the annual users group conference. This position has no formal supervisory responsibilities. Education & Experience:
Degree in Accounting, Business Administration, Finance, or a related field preferred. Relevant accounting experience may be considered in place of formal education. Two or more years of accounting or related experience preferred. Proficiency with Microsoft Office products, including experience working with complex Excel formulas and spreadsheets. Basic understanding of accounting principles and practices including accounts payables, receivables, taxes and financial statements. Experience with accounting ERP is a plus. Travel/Working Conditions This position will be in office at our Billings, Montana location.
