Job Description
Residential Level III Staff - PP / AP / QP Alternative Behavioral Solutions, Inc. Greensboro, NC Position Summary Alternative Behavioral Solutions, Inc. is seeking dependable, compassionate, and professional individuals to join our Level III Residential Program for adolescent males. We are currently accepting applications for individuals who qualify as a Paraprofessional (PP), Associate Professional (AP), or Qualified Professional (QP) under applicable North Carolina behavioral health requirements. Residential staff provide direct supervision, structure, support, skill building, and behavioral interventions to youth receiving Level III residential services. Staff are expected to help maintain a safe, therapeutic, structured, and supportive environment while assisting youth with developing the skills necessary to successfully transition to a lower level of care and ultimately return to their family or community. This is a direct-care position. Applicants must be comfortable actively engaging with adolescents who may have significant mental health, behavioral, trauma-related, family, school, and/or substance use concerns. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Residential staff are responsible for maintaining appropriate supervision of residents and ensuring the safety and well-being of youth throughout the assigned shift. Staff will implement interventions identified in each youth's Person-Centered Plan and treatment plan and will assist residents with developing appropriate coping skills, emotional regulation, communication skills, anger management, problem-solving skills, independent living skills, and healthy interpersonal relationships. Staff will provide structure and redirection when behavioral concerns occur and reinforce positive behaviors and progress toward treatment goals. Staff responsibilities include supervising and assisting youth with daily routines such as personal hygiene, meals, chores, homework, recreation, community activities, appointments, medication routines within the staff member's authorized role, and preparation for school and bedtime. Staff are expected to serve as positive adult role models and maintain professional and therapeutic boundaries with all residents. Behavioral Support and Crisis Intervention Residential staff must be able to recognize changes in a youth's behavior or emotional condition and respond appropriately. Staff will utilize approved de-escalation techniques, crisis prevention strategies, and behavioral interventions to help youth safely manage anger, aggression, impulsivity, emotional dysregulation, and other challenging behaviors. Employees must follow the youth's crisis plan, safety plan, Person-Centered Plan, and agency procedures during behavioral health emergencies. Staff must immediately report significant incidents, safety concerns, allegations of abuse or neglect, elopement concerns, suicidal or self-harm concerns, medication issues, injuries, and other reportable events according to agency policy and applicable requirements. Daily Residential Responsibilities Residential staff may be responsible for transporting and accompanying residents to school, medical appointments, therapy appointments, recreational activities, community activities, and other approved destinations. Staff will assist with meal preparation and supervision, household routines, maintaining the cleanliness and safety of the residence, recreational programming, life-skills activities, and other responsibilities necessary for the operation of a 24-hour residential program. Staff must complete required safety checks and supervision responsibilities throughout the shift, including overnight responsibilities when assigned. Sleeping while responsible for resident supervision is prohibited unless specifically permitted under the staffing arrangement and agency policy. Documentation Residential staff must complete accurate and timely documentation of services and significant events occurring during their assigned shift. Documentation responsibilities may include daily progress notes, shift notes, behavioral documentation, incident reports, medication-related documentation within the employee's authorized role, transportation documentation, communication logs, and other required clinical or residential records. Documentation must accurately describe the youth's behaviors, interventions provided by staff, response to interventions, progress toward treatment goals, and any significant clinical or safety concerns. All documentation must comply with Alternative Behavioral Solutions, Inc. policies and applicable North Carolina Medicaid, regulatory, licensing, confidentiality, and managed care requirements. Paraprofessional (PP) Paraprofessional staff provide direct residential support and supervision under the direction and supervision of appropriately qualified clinical and program staff. PP staff are expected to implement established treatment interventions, provide supervision and behavioral support, assist with daily living activities, participate in recreational and skill-building activities, transport residents when authorized, and document services provided. Applicants must meet applicable education, experience, competency, training, supervision, and other requirements for the Paraprofessional role. Associate Professional (AP) Associate Professional staff provide residential and behavioral health services consistent with their education, training, experience, and scope of responsibility. AP staff may assume additional responsibilities related to implementation of treatment interventions, coordination of resident needs, documentation, communication with treatment team members, and support of other residential staff as assigned. Applicants must meet applicable North Carolina requirements for designation as an Associate Professional. Qualified Professional (QP) Qualified Professional staff may have additional clinical, administrative, coordination, and supervisory responsibilities consistent with their qualifications and assigned role. QP responsibilities may include assisting with Person-Centered Plan implementation, reviewing documentation, coordinating services, communicating with families and treatment team members, monitoring progress toward treatment goals, assisting with crisis planning, supporting discharge and transition planning, and providing guidance to residential staff. Applicants hired as a QP must meet applicable North Carolina requirements for designation as a Qualified Professional for the population served.
