POSITION TITLE
Accounting Specialist
JOB SUMMARY
Assist with accounting functions of the Authority including the administration and compliance functions for Federal, State, and Local grants and other sources of funding
DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Responsible for accounting and control functions including GAAP compliance, assisting with the month-end and year-end close, and related financial reporting
  • Administration of financial accounting and reporting software (Macola)
  • Identification of grant and funding opportunities and applying for those funding opportunities including all local, state and Federal Assistance Grant programs
  • Post-award administration of Federal (FTA), state and local grants including grant revisions, required grant reporting (FFRs, MPRs, NTD) and ensuring compliance with funding requirements
  • Maintain official grant files, records, and supporting documentation related to federal, state, and local projects
  • Participate in the reporting, planning, development, and implementation of new programs associated with reimbursable projects, new service initiatives, special projects, and demonstration programs
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited four-year college or university in Accounting, Business Administration, Finance, Public Administration, or other related field
  • Minimum of two years work experience in accounting, project management, and/or grants administration
  • Knowledge of principles and practices of governmental budgeting a plus
  • Must possess valid North Carolina Driver License
  • Pre-employment background check and drug screen required
SKILLS REQUIRED
  • Proficiency in using computer systems and software applications associated with performance of assigned work is essential. Basic problem-solving skills associated with software applications used is expected.
  • Must provide exceptional communication and customer service skills, plus demonstrate ability to perform in a team environment with excellent interpersonal and problem-solving skills
  • Background and experience with audit methodologies and techniques
  • Knowledge of GAAP principles
  • Strong attention to detail
