Job Description

We are looking for a detail-oriented Bookkeeper/Bursar to support the financial operations of a school community in Cranbury, NJ. This Long-term Contract position focuses on maintaining accurate records, overseeing student-related funds, and ensuring day-to-day transactions are handled in accordance with established school and state guidelines. The person in this role will work closely with school leadership, district administration, staff, families, and external partners to keep financial activities organized, compliant, and well documented.
Responsibilities:
  • Oversee accounting activity for student funds and other assigned school accounts, ensuring records remain current and accurate.
  • Record and balance incoming payments, deposits, disbursements, and transfers while maintaining proper supporting documentation.
  • Create regular financial summaries and reports for school leaders and the district business office.
  • Guide staff members, club advisors, and athletic personnel on approved financial procedures and available account balances.
  • Administer cash-handling processes for events, fundraising efforts, ticketed activities, and student organizations.
  • Perform bank reconciliations, review variances, and resolve discrepancies in a timely manner.
  • Support purchasing and payment activities by handling invoices, reimbursement requests, and related operational transactions.
  • Maintain audit-ready files and assist with annual reviews by supplying requested financial records and explanations.
  • Respond to questions from staff, parents, students, and vendors regarding account activity and financial procedures.
  • Use financial software and Microsoft Office tools to manage records, prepare documentation, and track transactions efficiently.
