Job Summary We are seeking a detail-oriented and proactive Payment Posting Specialist to accurately post patient and insurance payments, adjustments, denials, and other financial transactions to patient accounts. This on-site position is responsible for ensuring payments are applied correctly, account balances remain accurate and up to date, and daily payment activity is properly reconciled. The Payment Posting Specialist plays an important role in by identifying payment discrepancies, maintaining accurate financial records, and providing daily task support to the billing team. Key Responsibilities Posts insurance and patient payments accurately and promptly to patient accounts. Follows payer-specific requirements and company policies and procedures when posting payments and adjustments. Retrieves all unposted payments from payer portals and ensures they are processed appropriately. Reviews payments for accuracy and reports underpayments, discrepancies, or posting issues to management. Posts all patient payments received by mail accurately and timely. Assists with processing insurance refunds in accordance with established company procedures. Reconciles daily payment batches against Electronic Remittance Advice (ERA), Explanation of Benefits (EOB), checks, and electronic payments to ensure accuracy. Maintains a working knowledge of charge entry and insurance follow-up protocols and provides backup support to the Reimbursement Specialist as assigned. Maintains accurate and complete documentation of payment activity, adjustments, and related account transactions. Maintains patient confidentiality and complies with HIPAA requirements and all compliance guidelines established by the practice. Required Experience Minimum of six (6) months of experience posting health insurance payments. Proficiency with practice management systems, Microsoft Office applications, and standard office technology. Working knowledge of payment posting procedures and Medicaid, Medicare, commercial, Personal Injury Protection (PIP), Workers' Compensation (WC), and supplemental insurance plans. Knowledge of Explanation of Benefits (EOB) forms, claim forms, and insurance billing processes. Knowledge of 835 Electronic Remittance Advice (ERA) transactions, including applicable remittance and adjustment codes. Skills & Competencies Effective written and verbal communication skills. Excellent attention to detail with a strong commitment to accuracy. Familiarity with denial management and accounts receivable processes. Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines while maintaining accuracy and attention to detail.
