Job Description

SRS is seeking a Bookkeeper to join our ShopRite of Oakland team. The job purpose of a Bookkeeper is to accurately manage and maintain the daily financial records and transactions of the store, process payroll to ensure associates are paid accurately and on time, and efficiently manage staff scheduling, thereby ensuring financial integrity, optimizing labor allocation, and providing reliable data to support efficient operations and profitability.
Overview of Responsibilities :
Financial Record Keeping:
Accurately recording all daily financial transactions, including sales, expenses, cash movements, and other financial activities.
Cash Management & Reconciliation:
Managing the store's cash flow, including preparing bank deposits, reconciling cash registers/POS systems, managing cash vaults, and ordering change—while ensuring all funds are properly accounted for.
Payroll Processing & Accuracy:
Collecting, verifying, and processing employee time records; calculating wages and deductions; and ensuring accurate, timely payment of all associates in accordance with company policy and labor laws. This also includes managing attendance records and resolving payroll discrepancies.
Staff Scheduling Entry:
Accurately entering and maintaining employee work schedules in the scheduling system to ensure proper staffing levels, adherence to labor budgets, and compliance with labor regulations.
Compliance & Loss Prevention:
Ensuring strict adherence to financial policies, internal controls, and auditing procedures to prevent loss and fraud, while maintaining compliance with all relevant financial regulations, including payroll, labor laws, and scheduling guidelines.
Communication & Collaboration:
Serving as a key point of contact for financial, payroll, and scheduling inquiries. Communicating effectively with department managers, front-end staff, vendors, corporate accounting, and human resources teams.
Compliance and Professional Conduct:
Adhere to all company policies and local, state, and federal health regulations; follow management instructions; provide constructive feedback; complete all required training (including on company technologies, equipment, Age Restricted Sales, and CPR); and operate powered equipment only if properly trained or certified. Performing all other duties as assigned by management.
Qualifications :
Experience & Skills:
Preferably experienced in Bookkeeping. Must demonstrate basic math and English proficiency, follow instructions, and communicate effectively with management.
Leadership:
Proven ability to lead, train, and manage a team. Skilled in inventory control, quality assurance, merchandising, and enhancing customer experience in a retail setting.
Financial Acumen:
Understand sales targets, manage labor and expenses, and contribute to departmental financial success.
Physical Requirements:
Able to stand, walk, bend, stretch, crouch, regularly lift 25 lbs. (up to 50 lbs. occasionally), and perform duties that require significant walking, pushing, and pulling of equipment. As of the date of this posting, a good faith estimate of the current pay for this position is $16.50-$18.00 an hour. Placement in the range depends on several factors, such as experience, skills, geography, and may change over time. This position is eligible for vision, dental, life insurance, and legal plan benefits, which become available on a graduated basis over time according to the terms of the collective bargaining agreement ("CBA"). Paid time off (sick time, personal days, vacation days, and holidays) will accrue on a graduated basis over time in accordance with the CBA. Retirement benefits (pension or 401k) become available over time in accordance with the CBA. ShopRite Supermarkets, Inc.
