Temporary-to-Hire Stafkings is recruiting an experienced Accounting Specialist for a respected, mission-driven nonprofit organization in Binghamton, NY. This position supports the fiscal department with accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger activity, reconciliations, contract vouchering, and financial reporting. Responsibilities Post payroll, retirement plan invoices, cash disbursements, deposits, and other transactions to the general ledger Record contract, Medicaid, interpreter service, and other accounts receivable Maintain and reconcile accounts receivable records and accounts payable aging Review accounts payable invoices and assign appropriate general ledger and grant allocations Process recurring journal entries and prepare checks for distribution Prepare monthly and quarterly financial reports, vouchers, and supporting documentation Complete account reconciliations and assist with expense reallocations Help ensure financial activity complies with GAAP, funding requirements, and organizational procedures Assist with annual fiscal, pension, workers' compensation, funding-source, and regulatory audits Provide backup support for payroll processing, including labor distributions and accruals Maintain accurate financial records and submit required reports within established deadlines Provide occasional backup coverage for other department functions Participate in required meetings, training programs, and organizational activities Qualifications Associate degree in accounting or a related field preferred At least two years of accounting, bookkeeping, or fiscal experience Nonprofit, grant-funded, or contract-vouchering experience is helpful Working knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word, and other standard office applications Strong attention to detail, organization, and time-management skills Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet reporting deadlines Effective written and verbal communication skills Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team Commitment to treating individuals from all backgrounds and abilities with professionalism and respect Ability to occasionally adjust work hours and travel within Upstate New York as needed Physical and Scheduling Requirements Ability to sit or stand for extended periods while completing computer-based work Ability to enter and review financial information accurately Flexibility to occasionally work early mornings, evenings, or weekends when business needs require
Pay Rate:
