Job Description

BMI Supply is seeking a well-organized, reliable, and detail-oriented Accounting Assistant to join our accounting department. The ideal candidate is a self-starter with demonstrated experience in construction accounting, payroll processing involving prevailing wages, general ledger reconciliation, and multi-state sales tax compliance. This individual will serve as back-up support to our Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable specialists, while handling day-to-day tasks and special projects in support of the Controller. BMI Supply is a well-respected company in the technical theatre industry, offering high quality services and products. This is a full-time hourly position, Monday - Friday, 40 hours per week. Responsibilities include:
Payroll processing support, including prevailing wage and certified payroll requirements Perform general ledger account reconciliations Maintain sales tax files for multiple states Serve as back-up support to the Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable specialists, including: Review and prep sales orders for invoicing and related reporting Post payments and invoice batches Purchase order cost verifications and reporting Review and code weekly freight invoices; assist with freight claims Support customer collections, reporting, and weekly collection meetings Assist with directing customer and vendor inquiries Ensure compliance with accounting policies and internal control procedures Perform day-to-day tasks and special projects in support of the Controller, and other general duties as assigned
Requirements:
2-5 years of demonstrated experience in a similar accounting role Proficiency in the Microsoft Office suite of products, including Excel, Word, and Outlook Sage 300 experience is a plus, but will train Highly reliable, self-starting, and detail-oriented Excellent time management, organizational, and multi-tasking skills Ability to work both independently and as part of a team, meeting tight deadlines with high transaction volumes
