Immediately About the Regional Church The Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in Oregon and Southwest Idaho is a Christian community committed to proclaiming, teaching, and living out the gospel of Jesus Christ through ministry, mission, witness, service, fellowship, and care for congregations, ministers, and communities throughout the region. We are seeking a dependable and detail-oriented Bookkeeper to support the financial operations of the Regional Church and its ministries. This is a small, part-time position that plays an important role in maintaining accurate financial records, supporting responsible stewardship, and providing timely financial information to church leadership. About the Position The Bookkeeper will perform standard internal accounting and bookkeeping functions for the Regional Church and Oregon Disciple Foundation. The position averages approximately 10-12 hours per week , with a flexible schedule. The Bookkeeper will have flexibility to determine the regular days and hours worked, while also being responsible for meeting established deadlines and being in the office on mutually agreed-upon dates when in-person work is required. The person selected will begin as soon as possible so that there can be an appropriate period of overlap and training with the current Bookkeeper. Key Responsibilities Maintain accurate financial records for the Regional Church using CDM, the organization's accounting software, along with Excel and QuickBooks. Record income, expenses, assets, and other financial transactions. Prepare checks for signature by authorized signers, ensuring appropriate requisitions, approvals, and supporting documentation are in place. Serve as liaison with the outside payroll company. Support compliance with applicable state and federal payroll withholding and reporting requirements, including required employment and tax forms. Prepare regular financial reports for the Regional Minister, Regional Board, Finance Committee, other committees as appropriate. Provide timely financial information to support leadership's management of cash flow and financial priorities. Prepare and maintain records needed for the annual professional audit. Maintain organized paper and electronic financial files and appropriate electronic backups. Maintain records related to employee leave and other applicable personnel accounting records. Prepare and submit required reports related to workers' compensation and other governmental programs not handled by the payroll company. Prepare and submit monthly reports and remittances of denominational offerings in accordance with established Disciples Treasury Services procedures. Timely delivery of monthly reports and offerings is a high priority. Implement financial procedures and internal controls established by the auditor, Finance Committee, and Regional Minister. Provide financial reports and information to the Board and Finance Committee on a regular basis. Attend regional Finance Committee meetings online when requested. Provide a monthly description of work performed and a signed timesheet to the Regional Minister.
What We're Looking For Required:
Previous bookkeeping experience (2+ years). Strong attention to detail and accuracy. Ability to maintain confidential financial and personnel information. Ability to work independently and manage recurring deadlines. Ability to communicate clearly with church leadership, committees, and outside service providers. Working knowledge of Excel. Willingness and ability to work in person in Portland, Oregon, on agreed-upon dates.
Preferred:
Experience using CDM or similar church/nonprofit accounting software. Experience with nonprofit or church financial operations. Experience preparing financial reports for a board, finance committee, or governing body. Experience working with payroll providers and governmental reporting requirements. Schedule and Work Environment This is a flexible, part-time position averaging approximately 10-12 hours per week . The Bookkeeper will establish a regular work schedule in coordination with the Regional Minister, while meeting required deadlines and agreed-upon in-office dates. We are a small organization where colleagues work closely together and value a supportive, caring, and collaborative working environment. Compensation and Benefits $25-$28 per hour , depending on qualifications and experience. This is a part-time position and is not eligible for the Regional Church's health or pension benefits . The position is covered by applicable Oregon employee leave and workplace requirements, including Oregon sick time and Paid Leave Oregon, as applicable under current law and the employee's eligibility.
