Job Description
We are seeking a bookkeeper to support our public accounting practice. We are a peer‑reviewed CPA firm with offices in Sullivan and Orange Counties, serving a varied client base including professionals, agriculture, manufacturing, wholesale, retail, automotive, non‑profit entities, and local governments. We are a progressive firm that leverages current technology and Thomson Reuters software to serve the specific needs of our clients. Position Overview The candidate will be responsible for client bookkeeping services. The role also includes data entry and preparation of payroll and sales tax returns. This position is primarily on-site at our Monticello office, with the potential for occasional remote work. Responsibilities Post transactions to the general ledger (accounts payable, accounts receivable, cash receipts/disbursements, payroll, credit cards). Prepare bank, credit card, and other balance sheet account reconciliations. Record and review adjusting and closing entries as directed by senior staff and partners. Maintain organized electronic client files, supporting schedules, and documentation. Communicate with clients via telephone and email. Perform general office and administrative tasks, such as answering phones, preparing correspondence, scanning documents, and occasional trips to the post office. Adhere to firm policies on confidentiality, data security, and quality control. Qualifications Minimum one year of bookkeeping or accounting experience. Experience posting transactions and performing reconciliations in QuickBooks or similar accounting software. Strong computer skills, including proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word and Excel). Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills. Ability to prioritize and manage multiple client projects and deadlines, work independently, and collaborate effectively with team members. Professional demeanor and ability to interact with clients and colleagues.
