Job Description

Controller/Bookkeeper Hybrid KC Auto Clinics is seeking a Controller to serve as the financial backbone across our four Kansas City-area repair shops. This role blends hands-on daily bookkeeping with higher-level financial leadership: you'll own accounts payable and receivable, vendor invoice auditing, and account reconciliations, while also driving budgeting, forecasting, and financial reporting for the group. You'll report directly to ownership and work closely with shop managers to keep the books accurate and the business financially healthy as we grow. Key Responsibilities Bookkeeping & Day-to-Day Accounting Manage accounts payable and accounts receivable across all four shop locations Process and audit vendor invoices for accuracy, pricing, and duplicate or erroneous charges Reconcile bank and credit card statements on a monthly basis Maintain the general ledger and ensure transactions are coded correctly by location Support payroll processing and related journal entries Track and follow up on outstanding customer and vendor balances Controller-Level Duties Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements for each shop and the company as a whole Lead the monthly close process and ensure timely, accurate reporting Build and manage annual budgets in partnership with ownership and shop managers Develop financial projections and forecasts to support growth and expansion planning Analyze shop-level performance (labor, parts margin, overhead) and flag trends or concerns Establish and maintain internal controls to safeguard company assets Partner with the outside CPA/tax preparer at year-end Recommend process improvements to strengthen financial reporting and efficiency Special Projects Manage labor claims and warranty claims processes, ensuring timely and accurate submission and follow-up Track and reconcile part returns to vendors Take on other ad hoc financial and operational projects as assigned Qualifications & Skills Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field preferred (equivalent hands-on experience will be considered) 5+ years of progressive accounting or bookkeeping experience; prior controller or assistant controller experience a plus CPA or CMA a plus, but not required Proficiency with QuickBooks (or similar accounting/shop management software) and strong Excel skills Experience with a multi-location business a plus; automotive repair or service industry experience a plus High attention to detail and strong organizational skills Ability to work independently, manage competing priorities, and meet deadlines Strong communication skills to work effectively with shop managers and ownership Position Details Location Kansas City metro area; regular travel between all four shop locations Work Arrangement On-site to start, with the opportunity to move to a hybrid or work-from-home schedule over time
Employment Type Full-time Reports To Amy Cooper/ Ownership Pay:
$80,000.00 - $95,000.00 per year
