Job Description
Position Summary We're hiring a full-time, remote Bookkeeper who's ready to grow into a full-charge role. You'll start out handling core bookkeeping work across a portfolio of clients, and as you build proficiency, you'll take on increasing ownership — eventually managing the full monthly close, financial statements, and payroll for your accounts with minimal oversight. This role is a strong fit for someone who picks up new systems and solves problems quickly, including on their own initiative, and wants a clear runway to grow their skills and pay. About Us Lawrence Business Services is a bookkeeping firm serving small and mid-sized businesses with accurate, timely financial reports to help business owners manage and grow their business. We work with a range of clients across industries, and our mission is to provide financial clarity and peace of mind so business owners can focus on what matters to them. As a remote-first company, we look for people who do great work independently and take ownership of their piece of the puzzle.
Key Responsibilities From day one:
Enter, categorize, and reconcile transactions across client accounts in QuickBooks Online Process accounts payable and accounts receivable via our company's established processes Maintain accurate, organized records in our company cloud file storage system Track and meet recurring deadlines across multiple clients using our company workflow system Flag discrepancies, unusual transactions, or trends that could lead to a downstream issue (e.g., cash flow risk, misstated expenses/income, duplicate transactions) before they compound Communicate proactively with clients and internal team members when something needs clarification or attention Look for opportunities to learn and grow in your accounting knowledge, and to support the company's team culture As you grow into the role: Independently manage monthly and year-end close for your accounts Prepare complete financial statements (profit & loss, balance sheet, cash flow, A/P & A/R aging summaries) Process or oversee payroll and related tax filings via modern payroll software Record journal entries, including adjusting and accrual entries Coordinate directly with clients' outside CPAs at tax time Take full ownership of a client's books with minimal day-to-day supervision Look for opportunities to teach/support teammates, and to contribute to our company's ongoing process improvement and overall growth (good ideas benefit everyone!) Required Qualifications 1+ years of hands-on bookkeeping experience Working familiarity with QuickBooks Online Strong track record of meeting deadlines Comfortable working independently with minimal day-to-day supervision Reliable internet connection and a quiet remote work setup Ideal Candidate Traits Fast, self-guided learner — picks up new software, workflows, and unfamiliar problems quickly through documentation, tutorials, or trial and error, without needing much hand-holding Sharp pattern recognition — notices small inconsistencies in the numbers and connects them to what they likely mean down the line, rather than just recording what's in front of them Independent critical thinker — works through an unfamiliar problem methodically and lands on a sound solution without needing to be walked through every step Growth-minded — actively seeks out more responsibility and builds new skills rather than waiting to be assigned them Detail-oriented and deadline-driven — treats deadlines as non-negotiable and follows a workflow that consistently hits them Compensation & Benefits Starting salary: $42,000-$50,000/year, based on experience Growth track: base increases toward $48,000-$62,000/year as you take on full ownership of monthly close, financial statement prep, payroll, etc. Once handling full-charge responsibilities, also earn commission on recurring revenue from your accounts, worth an additional $2,000-$12,000+/year on top of base (makes up 4 -20% of total compensation) Full-time, remote position Flexible schedule 401(k) with 4% company match after 90 days of employment 13 paid holidays Starting 15 days PTO + 4 bonus PTO days per year as reward for usage (and unused days can rollover)Pay:
