Two days a week. Same two days. Remote. Must Reside In New York. Tuesdays and Thursdays, eight hours each. Not scattered hours, not on-call, not five clients pulling at you at once. If you have run a full set of books before and want one steady anchor instead of a scramble, that is exactly what this is. About us AccuCare is a family-owned, New York State licensed home care services agency founded in 1988. We specialize in one-to-one pediatric private duty nursing, placing RNs and LPNs with children who need skilled care at home, in school, and in transit across the Hudson Valley. We are a small office doing serious work. Our finance function has grown past the point where it can live in a corner of someone else's week, and we're looking for the person who will own it. The role This is a full charge bookkeeping role. You will own the agency's books end to end — accounts payable, accounts receivable and collections, bank reconciliation, cash flow, and month-end close — and you will report directly to the COO. There is no controller above you handling the real accounting. You are it. What you'll own Full-cycle bookkeeping — coding expenses, maintaining the vendor register, reconciling bank and credit card accounts Accounts payable — logging invoices, verifying them against terms, preparing weekly payment runs for approval Accounts receivable — posting cash receipts, working the aging, chasing balances, resolving denials and rebilling Cash management — maintaining a rolling 13-week cash forecast Month-end close on a published schedule, delivered by the eighth business day Budget-versus-actual variance reporting, and margin review by service line and contract Supporting our outside accountant, payroll service, insurance broker, and bank The part that isn't ordinary bookkeeping About 10% of this job is analysis, and it's the part we care most about. Each month you'll explain why the numbers moved — not just report that they did — and flag which contracts are running below target margin. That work goes straight into a standing monthly review with the COO, where it shapes what we renegotiate and where we spend. If you've ever produced a variance report that nobody read, this is the opposite of that. If that kind of thinking is what you enjoy and rarely get asked for, say so in your note. It is the part of this job we value most. Why this role is different Most part-time bookkeeping jobs are vague about the work and the hours. This one isn't. The position comes with a written close calendar laying out what happens on each business day of the month, and a finance workbook with the forecast, budget, variance, and cash reporting already built. You won't be inventing the system from nothing, and you won't be guessing at expectations. What we're looking for Required 3+ years of full-cycle bookkeeping experience, including month-end close you performedindependently Hands-on ownership of both AP and AR — not one or the other Working proficiency in QuickBooks and in Excel, including formulas and lookups Experience reconciling bank, credit card, and payroll accounts Ability to look at a variance and explain the business reason behind it Comfort working independently against a calendar, and the judgment to escalate early rather than absorb a problem quietly Discretion with confidential financial and personnel information Nice to have Home care, healthcare staffing, or healthcare services experience Familiarity with third-party payer billing, denials, and authorization-driven revenue Experience implementing or migrating an accounting system Degree in accounting, finance, or a related field Schedule and logistics 16 hours per week — two fixed days, 8 hours each. Tuesday and Thursday work best for our cycle, and we will settle the days with you before you start Remote, with two or three on-site days in Nanuet during the first 60-90 days while we organize expenses and migrate the books Open to candidates in New York, New Jersey, and Connecticut Some additional hours may be needed during the initial setup period and in months where the close and the weekly cycle collide Pay reviewed at 90 days once the monthly close is running cleanly [Employee / contractor classification — confirm before posting] To apply Send your resume and a short note answering this: Tell us about a time the numbers came in materially different from budget. How did you figure out why, and what did you tell the owner or manager? We read these. A thoughtful three-sentence answer will get further than a polished resume without one.
