Job Description

BUSINESS MANAGER

Full-Charge Bookkeeper / Accountant Savannah, Tennessee

• Full-time

• Immediate opening Balanced Life Ministry is a church and a group of businesses in Hardin County, Tennessee. Restaurants, retail, outdoor recreation, property services, a congregation, and a program that puts men and women back to work while they rebuild their lives. Seven sets of books across it all, including two nonprofits. We are looking for one person to take ownership of all of it. You would be designing this, not maintaining it Our longtime bookkeeping firm is retiring, and the software they used is going away with them. That means we are building our books from a blank page. Whoever takes this role will design the chart of accounts for all seven entities and decide how this group keeps its books for the next twenty years. Most accounting jobs are maintaining somebody else's decisions. This one is making them. What you would own Full-charge bookkeeping for seven entities, two of them nonprofits Building and running one chart of accounts across the whole group Payroll coordination, sales tax, quarterly returns, annual filings and the Form 990 Donor records, receipting, acknowledgments and grant reporting Keeping ministry and business expenses cleanly separated Collecting weekly sales and cost reports from each location and managing to the group's cost targets Working alongside our CPA firm, and presenting the finance report to our board Who we are looking for Someone who believes in what we are doing, and who wants to be involved in making a difference rather than just closing a month. And someone who will challenge us to do better. Transparency matters here more than convenience. Money given to this ministry, and money earned by these businesses, has to be accounted for in a way that stands up to anybody who asks. We want somebody who will help us build that and then hold it — because for a ministry, the integrity of the books is not housekeeping. It is the thing that earns us the right to ask.
