Job Description

AP/GL Bookkeeper | J&B Fabricators Help us build the team behind the steel. J&B Fabricators is adding an experienced bookkeeper to work alongside our existing accounting and administrative team. This new position adds capacity as we strengthen our systems, support larger projects, and build a more organized, efficient business. We are looking for someone who enjoys accurate accounting, brings order to busy operations, and wants to help build a back-office team that runs like a well-oiled machine. J&B Fabricators supplies and installs structural steel and miscellaneous metals throughout Seattle and Western Washington. Our work includes structural framing, stairs, railings, and complex steel installations. Our shop, field crews, project managers, and office staff work together to deliver projects our customers can count on. We are building a company with strong customer relationships, clear accountability, and lasting opportunities for our employees and their families. That takes good people in every part of the business. Our office team is central to that vision. In this role, you will work with ownership and our current team to keep the books accurate, improve communication, and create repeatable processes that support the company as it grows.
Your responsibilities will include:
Accounts payable: Process invoices, verify approvals and job coding, reconcile vendor statements, resolve discrepancies, and prepare payment schedules.
Accounts receivable:
Support project billing, apply payments, track aging and retainage, follow up with customers, and document expected payment dates.
General ledger:
Maintain accurate records, prepare supported journal entries, reconcile accounts, and help resolve discrepancies.
Month-end close:
Help establish a consistent closing schedule and prepare reconciliations and reports for management and our outside accountant.
Cash-flow reporting:
Help maintain a weekly view of expected collections, upcoming payments, and cash needs.
Construction accounting:
Work with project managers to keep job costs, billing records, and supporting documentation organized and accurate.
Office organization:
Improve filing systems, accounting procedures, checklists, and deadline tracking.
Team development:
Help document responsibilities, cross-train coworkers, and build dependable coverage across accounting functions.
Process improvement:
Identify bottlenecks, recommend practical solutions, and follow through on improvements while maintaining clear approval controls. You will be a strong fit if you have: Solid experience with AP, AR, general ledger accounting, and account reconciliations. Strong Excel skills and confidence working in accounting software. A dependable approach to deadlines, follow-up, and confidential information. The ability to communicate clearly with coworkers, customers, vendors, and project managers. A collaborative attitude and the confidence to ask questions, flag issues, and suggest improvements. The ability to organize your work and finish what you start. Construction accounting experience is strongly preferred. Experience with job costing, progress billing, retainage, and Deltek ComputerEase is especially valuable. You will have direct access to ownership and a meaningful voice in how we improve the office. We value people who take pride in their work, respect their teammates, and make the people around them more effective. Success in this position means accurate books, timely billing, clear payment follow-up, dependable reporting, and an office team with the tools and support to do its best work. If you enjoy both doing the accounting and improving how the work gets done, we would like to meet you.
