In this entry-level accounting role, you will be instrumental in supporting essential accounting functions, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and efficiency across financial operations for Spokane Valley Fire Department. Your expertise and specialized knowledge will support the department's financial health by preparing payroll, compiling summaries of earning, calculate FLSA, processing reports, auditing information, asset tracking, performing reconciliations, accounts payable, assisting with Capitol Replacement Plan, and processing transactions with precision on a consistent basis. Required Occupational Qualifications To be eligible to apply for this position, the applicant must meet the following required occupational qualifications prior to the close of applications and then maintain them.
- Excellent oral communications skills for interacting with co-workers and the general public tactfully, courteously, and sensitively.
- Knowledge of professional and governmental accounting principles and procedures, and the principles of fund accounting, including a solid understanding of accounting debits and credits.
- Knowledge of and ability to interpret the laws, regulations, and policies that govern accounting procedures in District operations and in state and federal grants.
- Knowledge of payroll functions and activities, and ability to perform estimates and reviews of payroll information.
- Knowledge of office principles, practices, and use of a variety of office equipment including multi-line electronic digital phone system, computer, copier, fax, etc.
- Strong computer skills including knowledge and use of Microsoft Office Applications, including the ability to create and understand moderately complex formulas.
- Ability to exercise independent thinking within the established limits of policies, standards, procedures, and precedents within this classification to make recommendations and resolve problems.
- Ability to occasionally travel outside of work area for continued training, conferences, seminars.
- Ability to work overtime on an as needed basis in order to meet established deadlines that may be shortened due to Holidays.

Must be at least 18 years of age at time of application Proof of eligibility for employment in the United States. Hold a valid state driver's license, or identification card. Must be a non-tobacco user including e-cigarettes/vape products. Need to maintain a professional appearance consistent with acceptable office attire. Must have a Minimum of two (2) years of accounting clerk or full-charge bookkeeper experience; AND Completion of 10 quarter or 6 semester credit hours of college-level accounting courses, OR Completion of a Two-Year (AA) college degree in Accounting will substitute for the minimum experience requirement.
