Company Overview The Company is a branded, private label, and co-pack services provider in the food and beverage industry with over 75 years serving big-box, national and regional retailers, distributors, restaurants, and helping its co-pack and private label clients grow and build their brands. With new investment, the Company is building a platform for current and future growth and is seeking a seasoned, hands-on CFO to architect and execute growth. Position Summary The Chief Financial Officer is the senior financial executive responsible for financial performance, liquidity, reporting, controls, and decision support for an investor-owned company with revenues in excess of $100 million. Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer and working closely with the investor group and board, the CFO will combine executive judgment with deep, direct involvement in the Company's daily financial and operational activities. The successful candidate will be a highly hands-on operator who moves comfortably between the boardroom, the plant floor, the accounting close, the cash forecast, and detailed customer, product, and inventory analyses. The CFO will not simply receive finished work from subordinates. This individual must personally inspect the numbers, identify inconsistencies, build or improve analyses, resolve issues with functional leaders, and ensure that investor and lender reporting is accurate, timely, and decision actionable. Reporting Relationships
  • Reports to the Chief Executive Officer.
  • Regular interaction with the investor group, board of directors, lenders, auditors, and other outside stakeholders.
  • Planned functional oversight to include accounting, FP&A, treasury, tax, IT, HR, risk management/insurance, and supply chain. Key ResponsibilitiesHands-On Financial Leadership and Execution
  • Personally review monthly financial statements, account reconciliations, cash forecasts, operating forecasts, customer and product profitability, inventory reports, and key journal entries rather than relying solely on summaries prepared by others.
  • Build, revise, or directly supervise detailed financial models, scenario analyses, lender schedules, board materials, and performance bridges when the existing team lacks capacity or accuracy.
  • Dive into source data, ERP reports, spreadsheets, and operational information to determine why actual performance differs from plan.
  • Step into urgent accounting, reporting, cash, control, or systems issues and remain involved until the issue is resolved and a sustainable process is established.
  • Maintain sufficient technical and operational depth to challenge the accounting, FP&A, operations, sales, supply chain, executive assumptions, and outside advisors. Investor, Board, and Ownership Reporting
  • Prepare and personally review monthly and quarterly investor and board reporting, including financial performance, EBITDA, cash flow, working capital, liquidity, forecast changes, risks, and corrective actions.
  • Ensure all investor materials reconcile to the general ledger, operating systems, lender reports, and approved forecasts.
  • Communicate negative developments, reporting errors, and other concerns early and clearly, with quantified alternatives, preliminary root cause analysis, and action plans.
  • Support investor diligence, portfolio reviews, financing discussions, strategic planning, and ownership-transition activities. Financial Planning, Forecasting, and Performance Management
  • Own the annual budget, rolling 13-week cash flow forecast, long-range plan, and scenario models.
  • Personally review forecast assumptions and challenge revenue, margin, operating expense, capital expenditure, working capital, and cash-flow inputs.
  • Develop driver-based reporting by brand, SKU, customer, distributor, channel, geography, and facility.
  • Create clear accountability for performance against plan and ensure corrective actions are tracked to completion.
  • Improve forecast accuracy and shorten the time required to identify emerging risks. Accounting and Financial Reporting Oversight
  • Oversee the accounting organization while remaining personally engaged in the close, significant reconciliations, reserves, inventory accounting, cost accounting, revenue recognition, and unusual transactions.
  • After the first six months, ensure a reliable five-to-seven-business-day close and accurate
U.S. GAAP
financial statements without material post-close adjustments.
  • Review significant balance-sheet accounts, estimates, audit adjustments, and technical accounting conclusions.
  • Lead the external audit and ensure management, investors, and lenders receive consistent financial information. Treasury, Liquidity, and Capital Structure
  • Personally oversee the weekly and 13-week cash forecast, daily liquidity, borrowing availability, covenant compliance, and lender reporting.
  • Review and challenge cash assumptions, borrowing-base calculations, covenant definitions, debt-service requirements, and capital requests.
  • Lead lender relationships, refinancing, working-capital facilities, equipment financing, and other capital-structure decisions.
  • Maintain strong controls over bank accounts, wires, ACH activity, payment approvals, and authorized signers. Working Capital and Cash Conversion
  • Lead hands-on improvement of receivables, deductions, inventory, payables, and the cash conversion cycle.
  • Personally review aged receivables, customer deductions, unapplied cash, slow-moving inventory, excess inventory, production plans, and supplier-payment practices.
  • Assign specific owners and deadlines for cash-recovery and working-capital actions.
  • Work to return vendors to customary payment terms.
  • Ensure commercial and operating decisions incorporate cash-flow consequences. Commercial and Operational Finance
  • Partner directly with sales, operations, supply chain, procurement, and marketing to improve pricing, mix, gross margin, production economics, freight, co-packing costs, promotional spending, and customer profitability.
  • Personally analyze material margin shortfalls and establish a fact-based bridge across price, volume, mix, material cost, yield, labor, freight, overhead, promotions, and deductions.
  • Participate in pricing decisions, major customer negotiations, capital requests, capacity decisions, and make-versus-buy evaluations.
  • Spend meaningful time in operating facilities and with functional leaders to understand underlying performance drivers. Beverage Industry Oversight
  • Ensure effective financial oversight of excise taxes, bonded and tax-paid inventory, TTB requirements, distributor programs, depletion allowances, rebates, promotions, samples, donations, chargebacks, and returns.
  • Review inventory aging, shelf life, production yield, co-packer balances, third-party warehouse balances, and distributor deductions.
  • Coordinate finance, compliance, legal, sales, operations, and supply chain activities affecting regulated inventory and revenue deductions. Internal Controls, Risk, and Compliance
  • Personally assess control deficiencies and ensure practical remediation, rather than delegating all control matters to accounting, operations, and auditors.
  • Maintain a clear delegation-of-authority matrix, segregation of duties, payment controls, journal-entry controls, and master-data controls.
  • Oversee tax, insurance, audit, fraud risk, and finance-related cybersecurity controls.
  • Ensure the organization is prepared for investor, lender, audit, and transaction diligence.
  • Assist in the preparation of Standard Operating Procedures, which enhance controls. Systems, Data, and Process Improvement
  • Act as the executive owner of finance systems while understanding how data is created and transferred across accounting, manufacturing, inventory, sales, purchasing, and distribution systems.
  • Personally validate key reports and calculations before relying on them for investor or management decisions.
  • Reduce spreadsheet dependency, automate recurring work, and improve master-data and reporting controls.
  • Lead ERP, business-intelligence, and finance-transformation initiatives with direct involvement in requirements, testing, conversion, and adoption. Team Leadership and Organizational Development
  • Build a lean, capable finance organization with clear individual accountability.
  • Remain close enough to the work to identify weak performance, capacity gaps, and technical deficiencies quickly.
  • Coach accounting and finance team while avoiding unnecessary layers and over-delegation.
  • Develop succession and cross-training but retain personal ownership of the highest-risk financial matters.
  • Create a culture where individual team members investigate issues, work from source data, meet deadlines, and communicate problems early. M&A and Strategic Transactions
  • Proven success in leading the financial aspects of M&A, from initial diligence and valuation through to post-close integration. Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or a related field; CPA strongly preferred.
  • At least 15 years of progressive finance and accounting experience, including at least five years as a CFO, divisional CFO, VP Finance, or equivalent senior finance leader
  • Experience in an investor-owned or institutionally governed company with direct investor and board reporting responsibilities.
  • Demonstrated success in a hands-on CFO role within a manufacturing, consumer products, food and beverage, bottling, co-packing, or distribution environment.
  • Proven ability to identify errors, challenge assumptions, solve operational problems, and communicate directly with investors, boards, lenders, and operating leaders.
  • Strong command of U.S. GAAP, accounting close, cost and inventory accounting, FP&A, cash forecasting, treasury, working capital, debt compliance, internal controls, and ERP systems.
  • Experience managing external audits and coordinating tax compliance.
  • Ability and willingness to personally work in detailed financial models, spreadsheets, ERP reports, reconciliations, forecasts, and operating analyses.
  • Ability to lead accounting operations in a multi-location or multi-entity environment.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, project-management, and communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to design and improve internal controls.
  • Ability to work effectively with executive management, investors, private equity sponsors, lenders, auditors, and operating leaders. Preferred Qualifications
  • Direct beverage, food manufacturing, bottling, co-packing, consumer packaged goods, or distribution experience.

  • Experience with business combinations, purchase accounting, acquisition integration, and quality-of-earnings processes.
  • Experience with adjusted EBITDA, debt covenants, borrowing-base reporting, and sponsor reporting.
  • Experience improving or implementing enterprise resource planning systems.
  • Familiarity with TTB requirements, excise taxes, bonded inventory, distributor economics, depletion allowances, and promotional deductions.
