Job Description

We are looking for an experienced Chief Financial Officer to provide strategic financial leadership for a nonprofit organization in San Francisco. This Long-term Contract opportunity is ideal for a steady, hands-on executive who can guide the finance function through a demanding environment while strengthening reporting, controls, and operational support. The role requires strong board-level communication, sound judgment, and the ability to lead with patience, accountability, and credibility across teams.
Responsibilities:
  • Direct the organization's financial strategy, planning, and day-to-day fiscal oversight to support leadership decision-making and organizational stability.
  • Lead, coach, and develop a team of four direct reports across accounting, finance, payroll, and benefits functions, promoting accountability and collaboration.
  • Deliver clear, executive-level financial updates and analysis to senior leadership and the Board, translating complex data into actionable insights.
  • Oversee cash flow management, capital planning, and financial reporting to maintain strong visibility into organizational performance and funding needs.
  • Ensure key accounting adjustments and reclassifications are completed accurately and on schedule to support clean and reliable financial records.
  • Confirm that budget preparation is finalized and aligned with organizational priorities, timelines, and reporting expectations.
  • Oversee completion of Form 990 and related financial compliance requirements in accordance with nonprofit standards and deadlines.
  • Partner with operational leaders to improve financial processes, support organizational workflows, and address challenges tied to ongoing finance system buildout and banking-related coordination.
  • Foster a supportive but results-oriented leadership approach, listening carefully to team concerns while driving progress in a high-pressure environment.
