Job Description

OverviewA mission-driven private nonprofit organization is seeking an experienced Interim CFO to provide strategic and operational financial leadership during a critical period of growth and transformation. The organization currently serves approximately 370 individuals annually and is planning to scale operations by up to 3x, supported by a diverse funding model that includes philanthropy (75% of revenue), program fees, state appropriations, and county grants.

This role will partner closely with executive leadership and the Board to assess and strengthen the finance function, ensure financial integrity, and position the organization for sustainable expansion. The Interim CFO will also play a key role during a major capital campaign and organizational evolution. Non-profit experience is a must!

Key ResponsibilitiesConduct a comprehensive assessment of the current finance and accounting function, including processes, controls, systems, and team structureAudit and validate financial data to ensure accuracy, transparency, and readiness for executive and board-level reportingProvide strategic financial guidance to support organizational growth, scalability, and long-term sustainabilityEvaluate the effectiveness and capabilities of current financial leadership (e.g., CAO) and recommend improvements where neededImprove cross-functional communication, particularly between Finance and Fundraising teams, ensuring alignment on revenue tracking and forecastingAssess current financial systems and lead recommendations for system selection and/or optimization (if applicable)Oversee preparation and presentation of financial statements (P&L) to the Board of Directors (approximately 6 times per year)Provide insight and support related to the organization's fiscal year-end (June 30), including planning and audit readinessAddress operational complexities associated with high-volume, transaction-heavy revenue streams (e.g., program fees)Support financial planning and infrastructure development required to scale the organization by 3xAdvise leadership during an active capital campaign, ensuring financial alignment and reporting integrity
