Job Description

Job Overview Veterans Memorial Hospital is looking for an experienced and strategic financial leader to join our team as Chief Financial Officer. This position provides an opportunity to play a key role in the financial strength and long-term success of our hospital while working closely with the CEO, Board, and leadership team. We are seeking a CFO who is knowledgeable in healthcare finance, understands the unique financial challenges of a Critical Access Hospital, and can use financial data and analysis to support sound business decisions and organizational growth. As part of our leadership team, you will oversee the hospital's financial operations, including accounting, budgeting, forecasting, revenue cycle, reimbursement, financial reporting, and compliance. You will also lead financial planning and analysis, monitor key performance indicators, evaluate new service opportunities, and provide strategic financial guidance to hospital leadership.
Responsibilities Financial Leadership & Oversight:
Directs accounting, payroll, AP/AR, financial reporting, cash flow, banking, and financial systems.
Forecasting & Trend Analysis:
Develops dynamic financial models, scenario planning, and forward-looking risk assessments.
Strategic Planning & Budgeting:
Leads annual operating/capital budgets, long-term financial planning, and ROI/cost-benefit analyses.
Service Line Feasibility:
Evaluates market demand, staffing, and financial feasibility for new or expanded service lines.
Revenue Cycle Optimization:
Manages registration, coding, billing, collections, payer contracts, and denial management to reduce days in A/R.
Medicare Cost Report Optimization:
Maximizes Critical Access Hospital reimbursement methodologies and oversees cost report audits.
KPIs & Benchmarking:
Designs executive dashboards, tracks performance metrics, and holds department leaders accountable to financial targets.
Compliance & Audit:
Coordinates external audits and ensures compliance with regulatory requirements and accounting standards.
Leadership & Culture:
Supervises, hires, and trains finance department staff, promoting a culture aligned with hospital values.
Qualifications Education:
Master's degree in Finance, Accounting, MBA, or a related field preferred; Bachelor's degree in a relevant field required.
Experience:
5+ years of progressive healthcare financial leadership experience required.
Specialized Knowledge:
Strong expertise in Medicare Cost Reports and healthcare reimbursement strategies.
Preferences:
Prior leadership experience in Critical Access Hospitals highly preferred.
Core Skills:
Advanced financial modeling, revenue cycle management, contract negotiation, dynamic presentation skills, and executive leadership.
