Our MRI system holds FDA 510(k) clearance for MRI-guided prostate biopsy, and our team is continuing to develop the AI screening, robotic guidance, and targeted-treatment capabilities that will extend the platform. We're a small, fast-moving medical device company based in Oakland, California, and we're looking for talented, mission-driven people who want their work to matter in the clinic. Position Summary Promaxo is seeking a Chief Financial Officer to lead financial strategy, planning, and capital management as the company scales its point-of-care MRI platform for prostate cancer care. This is the senior-most finance role in the organization, responsible for financial planning and analysis, fundraising and capital strategy, and building the financial infrastructure needed to support a growing FDA-regulated medical device company. The CFO partners directly with the CEO and executive team to ensure Promaxo's growth is financially sound while overseeing the Director of Finance, Controller and the finance function overall. This is a hybrid role based out of our Oakland, CA office, with an expectation of regular in-office presence and the ability to commute to Oakland. Key Responsibilities Own Promaxo's overall financial strategy, including long-range planning, budgeting, and financial forecasting Lead fundraising and go-to-market strategy — capital raises, investor relations, and Board financial reporting — in partnership with the CEO to take Promaxo to market Oversee the Director of Finance, Controller and the broader finance function, ensuring accurate accounting, controls, and timely close processes Develop financial models to evaluate new markets, pricing strategy, manufacturing scale-up, and capital equipment sales economics Manage banking, credit, and treasury relationships, and oversee cash management for a growing medical device company Partner with Operations and Manufacturing leadership on cost accounting, unit economics, and inventory strategy as production scales Ensure financial reporting and controls meet the standards expected by investors, lenders, and (as applicable) public markets Advise the executive team and Board on financial risk, scenario planning, and strategic trade-offs across the business Required Qualifications 8-12+ years of progressive finance leadership experience, including prior CFO, VP Finance, or senior finance leadership roles Demonstrated experience leading finance for a medical device, healthcare technology, or other FDA-regulated company 5+ years of experience leading capital raises (equity and/or debt financing), with a demonstrated track record of taking a company to market and managing investor and Board relationships Strong background in financial planning & analysis, corporate finance, and building scalable accounting/financial infrastructure Experience managing cost accounting and unit economics for a manufactured hardware or capital equipment product Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or a related field Excellent communication skills with the ability to translate financial strategy for technical, clinical, and executive audiences Preferred Qualifications MBA or CPA Prior experience at a venture-backed medical device or medtech startup scaling from clearance through commercial growth Experience with capital equipment sales models, including long sales cycles and financing/leasing structures Familiarity with
ISO 13485 / FDA QSR
cost and quality considerations as they intersect with financial planning Experience preparing a company for potential M&A, strategic partnership, or public offering What We Offer A seat at the executive table, partnering with the CEO, Board, and investors on strategy and growth.
