Job Description

Job Overview We are seeking a highly motivated, detail-oriented, and adaptable Deputy Auditor - Claims Specialist to join our financial team. This position will be responsible for reviewing, processing, and auditing claims while ensuring accuracy, compliance, and adherence to established policies and procedures. The ideal candidate will be someone who is analytical, organized, dependable, and able to take on new challenges as the needs of the Auditor's Office evolve. This position will include additional responsibilities and duties beyond the current claims functions, and the successful candidate must be willing and able to learn, adapt, and take on new assignments. This is an excellent opportunity for an individual who wants to become a long-term member of our team and grow within the Auditor's Office while contributing to the accuracy, efficiency, and integrity of county financial operations. This job has the opportunity to advance after a period of time. Duties Review, process, and audit claims to ensure accuracy, completeness, and compliance with applicable laws, regulations, policies, and procedures. Examine supporting documentation and verify that expenditures are properly authorized, accurately coded, and supported by appropriate documentation. Identify discrepancies, errors, or potential compliance issues and work with departments to resolve them. Assist with maintaining accurate financial records and ensuring transactions are properly documented and processed. Prepare and maintain reports, records, and documentation related to claims and financial activities. Assist with internal and external audits by gathering documentation, responding to requests, and providing information as needed. Review financial information and identify opportunities to improve processes, internal controls, and overall efficiency. Work collaboratively with county departments, vendors, and other stakeholders to resolve questions and issues related to claims and financial transactions. Maintain confidentiality and exercise sound judgment when handling financial and sensitive information. Stay current on applicable governmental accounting principles, county policies, laws, and regulations. Assume additional responsibilities and duties as assigned. The responsibilities of this position may expand or change as the needs of the Auditor's Office evolve. Be willing to learn new processes, systems, and areas of responsibility and assist with other functions of the Auditor's Office as needed. Answer incoming telephone calls and provide professional and courteous assistance to taxpayers, county officials, and the public. Assist taxpayers at the front counter by answering questions, providing information, and directing them to the appropriate resources or department as needed. Provide excellent customer service while maintaining confidentiality and professionalism when handling taxpayer inquiries and financial information. Skills and Qualifications Strong attention to detail and accuracy. Excellent organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills. Ability to review financial information and identify errors or inconsistencies. Ability to interpret and apply policies, procedures, laws, and regulations. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Ability to communicate financial information clearly and professionally to individuals with varying levels of financial knowledge. Ability to work independently while also functioning effectively as part of a team. Strong computer skills, including proficiency with Microsoft Office and the ability to learn financial and governmental software systems. Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment. Demonstrated professionalism, dependability, discretion, and sound judgment. Previous experience in accounting, auditing, finance, governmental accounting, or a related field is preferred. Demonstrated willingness and ability to take on additional responsibilities, learn new functions, and grow with the position. Additional Expectations This position is intended to be a long-term, evolving role within the Auditor's Office. The successful candidate should be prepared to take on additional responsibilities as they arise and contribute to the continued improvement and efficiency of the office. The ability to adapt to changing priorities, learn new responsibilities, and step into additional areas of the office will be an important part of this position.
Pay:
$46,000.00 - $70,000.00 per year
