The role is responsible for the investigation, evaluation, and resolution of professional liability claims of standard to moderate complexity and exposure. This role works under the guidance of a Managing Claim Attorney or Senior Managing Claim Attorney and applies sound judgment, strong communication skills, and working knowledge of insurance coverage and claim handling practices to manage an assigned caseload from initial notice through resolution. Primary Duties and Responsibilities

• Provide excellent customer service to policyholders while investigating and analyzing coverage, liability and damages presented by claims
• Investigate, evaluate, and manage a caseload of standard to moderately complex professional liability claims from initial notice through resolution under the direction of a managing claim attorney
• Assess coverage, liability, and damages by analyzing policy language, underlying case facts, applicable law, and relevant precedent
• Set and adjust case reserves in accordance with company reserving philosophy and authority levels
• Develop and execute claim resolution strategies, including negotiation, mediation, arbitration, and litigation management
• Select, direct, and manage defense counsel and other outside vendors under the direction of a managing claim attorney, including review and approval of litigation budgets and invoices
• Oversee settlement negotiations with claimants, policyholders, and opposing counsel consistent with assigned authority and consistent with policy terms
• Prepare clear, well-supported claim file documentation, coverage position letters, and reserve rationale
• Present claims to management and/or claim committees, including recommendations on reserves, settlement authority, and litigation strategy
• Identify and escalate claims involving coverage disputes, bad faith exposure, or reinsurance reporting thresholds
• Monitor legal, regulatory, and industry developments affecting professional liability exposures and incorporate them into claim handling practices
• Ensure claim handling is compliant with applicable state statutes, unfair claims practices acts, and internal claim handling guidelines across multiple jurisdictions
• Collaborate with underwriting, risk management, and actuarial teams to share claim trends and inform pricing and policy form decisions
• Participate in special projects, audits, and process improvement initiatives as assigned This posting is a summary of the typical functions of the job, not a comprehensive list of all job responsibilities. Qualifications
• Bachelor's degree in a related field (e.g., risk management, business, insurance) preferred
• Minimum of 2-5 years of claims handling experience, preferably within professional liability, errors and omissions, or a related insurance line
• Working knowledge of insurance coverage principles and claim handling practices
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to explain coverage positions clearly to non-legal audiences
• Sound analytical and problem-solving skills with demonstrated attention to detail
• Ability to manage a claim caseload while recognizing when to escalate complex or high exposure matters
• Professional designation (e.g., AIC, CPCU) a plus, but not required
• Proficiency with claims management systems and standard business software (e.g., Microsoft Office)
• Strong organizational and time management skills and demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities with attention to detail
