As the Manager of Equity Compliance, you will report to the Executive Director of the Office of Equity and be a part of the Legal Division and a district leader. You will help to lead the Legal Division's transformational work to deliver on the promises outlined in our long-term, city-wide North Star, Vision, Values, Goals, and Guardrails. We seek an individual who will be responsible for conducting compliance training, investigating allegations of discrimination and harassment, and managing compliance with state and federal laws and corresponding District board policies and administrative regulations, including but not limited to: Prohibition of Discrimination (Education Code §200 et seq.) Sexual Harassment Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972 (Title 20 U.S.C. §1681 et seq.) Uniform Complaint Procedures (5 CCR §4610 et seq.) Williams Uniform Complaint Procedures (Education Code §35186; 5 CCR §4681, 4682, 4683) Essential Duties The duties specified below are representative of the range of duties assigned to the job code/class and are not intended to be an inclusive or exhaustive list. As the Manager of Equity Compliance you will: Act in collaboration with all teammates in the Office of Equity to ensure the District's compliance with Title IX and Board Policies 5145.7, 4034, 5131.2, and 1312.3. Develop and/or enhance the District's capacity to employ a student-centered and trauma-informed approach to complying with Title IX. Investigate formal sexual harassment and discrimination complaints. Identify areas for growth in school site practices relating to sexual harassment, bullying, and unlawful discrimination and provide guidance, feedback, and support to school-site and District leaders. Continue to enhance the District's capacity to prevent and reduce instances of sexual harassment by gathering and analyzing data and collaborating with school-site District leaders to address trends. Assist with revisions to District board policies and procedures related to nondiscrimination, uniform complaint procedures, Williams uniform complaint procedures, Title IX, and bullying and harassment to ensure policies are up-to-date and consistent with current requirements under state and federal laws, regulations, and guidelines. Develop and facilitate in-person and virtual training for District leaders, site leaders, teachers, and other relevant employees and staff. Create student-friendly resources for informing students about Title IX and Bullying & Harassment. Manage public-facing and internal websites related to equity-related policies and procedures. Effectively communicate with students, families, and employees participating in Title IX, Uniform Complaint, and Williams complaint procedures. Interpret federal and state nondiscrimination laws, including Title IX, California Education Code, Uniform Complaint Procedure, and other related laws and policies. Draft detailed, high-quality documentation that summarizes findings, makes credibility assessments, and issues recommendations for remedial and/or disciplinary action, when appropriate. Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple cases and competing priorities simultaneously Demonstrate and practice cultural humility toward individuals of other cultures and the ability to approach learning about other cultures as a lifelong goal and process. Work effectively and exercise good judgment independently and in difficult situations involving confidential or sensitive matters. Strong computer skills including proficiency in G Suite, Microsoft Office Suite, and web-based applications. Maintain an open mind, recognizing and acknowledging that previous education and life experiences impact the ability to objectively evaluate certain situations.
The strongest candidates will have:
Deep knowledge of training in trauma-informed investigation strategies to respond to complaints in a victim-centered, trauma-informed manner. Experience conducting investigations, drafting investigation reports, and arriving at policy findings based on evidence Knowledge of working in a K-12 setting, especially as an administrator, counselor, or school social worker in California public schools and/ or urban public schools A proven record of effectively planning, organizing, and using resources to take action Success leading effective teams and individuals, with a strong record of leading organizational change Well-developed cultural humility, awareness of their own identity, and understanding of internalized, interpersonal, and systemic racism and other forms of oppression Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including ability to convey complex information to a variety of audiences (e.g., large groups, staff meetings, executive briefings, public board meetings, memos) Strong analytics and quantitative skills Minimum Qualifications Bachelor's degree (B.A. / B.S) from an accredited college or university; advanced degree preferred Three (3) years of related professional-level experience

Education requirement may be substituted for additional professional-level experience on a year-for-year basis.
