Grow with us and become a part of our vibrant community! Position Summary The City of Dania Beach is committed to employing a talented and diverse workforce. We are currently seeking a Code Compliance Officer to join our dynamic Community Development Team. The ideal candidate will initiate and perform proactive field investigations to identify non-compliance with City codes and ordinances. They will respond to, research, and investigate code-related complaints from citizens, businesses, and staff in a manner that promotes positive public relations. The incumbent will prepare and issue notices to violators specifying the violation and required corrective actions to achieve compliance. They will also present case documentation and testify at Code Enforcement hearings regarding case facts, conditions, findings, and applicable code sections. This position is for a 10-hour shift; from Thursday through Sunday, 7:00am to 6:00pm. Initiates and performs proactive field investigations for non-compliance with or violations of City codes and ordinances. Responds to, researches and investigates code-related complaints from citizens, businesses, and staff in a manner that facilitates positive public relations. Prepares and provides notice to violators specifying the violation and action to be taken to abate violation conditions. Provides customer service and correspondence with violators, both verbally and in writing to provide information, respond to inquiries, and explain remedial action alternatives. Documents, records, and maintains detailed files on all case activity performed; monitors ongoing cases. Reviews various records and documentation relating to code enforcement duties, e.g., property ownership, site plans, codes, ordinances. Conducts appropriate research and drafts reports, fact sheets, evaluations, conclusions, notices, and other documentation for presentation to the Special Magistrate. Presents case documentation/information and testifies at Special Magistrate meetings regarding case facts, conditions, findings and relevant code sections. Re-inspects cases and determines if they are in compliance or if the case needs to be scheduled for Special Magistrate Hearing for non-compliance. Works rotating schedule as determined by Manager and shall include: nights, weekends, holidays, and before/after a declared emergency. Operates a City Vehicle. What's required: (Minimum Requirements) High School Diploma or GED Minimum of one (1) year vocational training or work experience in enforcement of zoning, building, land use, health or licensing codes. Additional education and experience or an equivalent combination of training and experience may be substituted for the above requirements. Level I Code Compliance Certification required within first year Possession of a valid driver's license with an overall good driving record is required. If the driver's license is out of state, must be able to obtain a Florida driver's license within thirty (30) days of the hire date. What's preferred: (Desired Requirements) Two (2) years vocational training or work experience in enforcement of zoning, building, land use, health or licensing codes. Possession of Level I Code Compliance Certification Previous experience testifying in public meetings.
