Duties:
ensuring the continued safety of our residents and business owners by inspecting existing buildings for Code violations. You will inspect, by appointment, common areas of muftiple dwelling for violations of property maintenance, fire, building, electrical, plumbing and zoning codes or ordinances; Inspect common areas of commercial and industrial properties for violations of Village Codes or ordinances; Enter computerized report of violations or deficiencies and send a copy to the property owner or agent; Perform exterior inspections and follow up of foreciosed properties, in accordance with Department procedure; Investigate complaints and inspect, on request, any area of a building and decide on validity of Code violations; Maintains records, takes photographic evidence and stores it to the appropriate database; Issues tickets to properties that are not in compiiance and prepares the record for the hearing; Stays current with other toca! property maintenance Codes to update the Village Code; Answers phone inquiries, write reports and documents facts for property records; Performs other work-reiated duties, as assigned. Required Training and High School Diploma or equivalent - college level coursework preferred;
Valid Driver's Knowledge:
License; Three years of experience in commerciai or residential construction, building inspection, or related fieid; Property Maintenance Inspector Certification through Internafionai Code Council (ICC) required within 6 months of employment; Some knowledge of the principies and practices of pfanning and community relations and current trends in the field of community development; Demonstrated knowledge of state, federal, and local housing codes, ordinances, and iaws, as weii as building construction methods and materials; Considerable skii! En dealing effectively with the genera! public, and exercising tact and firmness when necessary; Basic computer skiiis required, along with basic knowledge of personal electronic devices including, but not limited to, smart phones and tablets; Must be able to keep accurate and neat records, and prepare reports; Must follow at! safety rules of the Village.

JOB PURPOSE
Under general supervision, performs work of moderate difficulty inspecting existing buildings for code violations.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Inspects, by appointment, common areas of muftipie dwelling for violations of property maintenance, fire, building, eiectrical, plumbing and zoning codes or ordinances. Inspects common areas of commercial and industrial properties for violations of vii!age codes or ordinances. Enters computerized report of violations or deficiencies; sends copy to the property owner or agent. Performs exterior inspections and follow up of foreclosed properties in accordance with Department procedure. Investigates complaints and inspects on request any area of a building and decides on validity of code violations. Encourages residents and owners to comply with recommendations by educating them to the hazards and unsafe conditions. Makes reinspections to check for compliance. 635496 Conducts block surveys to evaluate condition of single-family dwellings for code compliance. Meets with property owners to explain the need for compliance. Maintains records, takes photographic evidence and stores it to the appropriate database. Issues tickets to properties that are not in compliance and prepares the record for the hearing.
OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES
Performs research into other cities property maintenance codes to update the Village Code. Answers phone inquiries, write reports and documents facts for property records. Performs other duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE / SKILLS / ABILITIES
Some knowledge of the principles and practices of planning and community relations. Some knowledge of current literature and recent redevelopment in the field of community development. Some knowledge of economics, finance and sociology as applied to community development. Good knowledge of state, federal and loca! housing codes and ordinances and laws. Good knowledge of building construction methods and materials. Basic computer skills required. Working knowledge of personal eiectronic devices including but not limited to smart phones and iPads. Working skill in locating violations and deficiencies in buildings and structures. Considerable skill in dealing effectively with the general public, in exercising tact and firmness when necessary. TION / TWINING / EXPERIENCE
High School Diploma/GED required. College level coursework preferred. Three years of experience in commercial or residentia) construction, building inspection or related field.
OTHER NECESSARY REQUIREMENTS / LICENSES
Property Maintenance Inspector Certification through International Code Council (ICC) required within 6 months of date of hire. Valid driver's license required.
PHYSICAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS
The work functions of this position are representative of medium work exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, reach with hands and arms, stoop, kneel or crouch. Regularly required to drive. Must have adequate hearing to communicate with co- workers and residents. The work is performed mainly outdoors subject to year-round climate conditions. The worker is subject to hazards due to working in close proximity to moving traffic and climbing on ladders; may be subject to conditions such as fumes, odors, dusts, gases or poor ventilation. The work is occasionaify performed in an indoor environment, in an office-type area, that is quiet except for office/communications equipment background noises.
