ABOUT THE ROLE
The Compliance Assistant provides administrative and operational support to the Compliance Officer in maintaining regulatory compliance across Dalmark's affordable housing portfolio. This position serves as a resource for onsite property teams by assisting with compliance processes, coordinating with third-party compliance vendors, conducting quality assurance reviews, and supporting internal audits. Rather than performing routine file reviews, this role focuses on more complex compliance matters, training and coaching onsite staff, monitoring compliance workflows, and helping ensure properties are prepared for state and federal regulatory reviews. This position offers an excellent opportunity to develop expertise in HUD and LIHTC affordable housing programs through extensive training and hands-on experience. The ideal candidate is highly organized, detail-oriented, enjoys problem solving, and is committed to delivering exceptional internal customer service while maintaining strict regulatory compliance.KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Serve as a liaison between Dalmark and our third-party compliance review vendor to ensure timely file submissions, responses to findings, and resolution of outstanding compliance items.
- Review complex or unusual resident certifications and compliance files that require additional analysis or guidance beyond standard third-party reviews.
- Process resident move-out final account statements to verify compliance with company policies and affordable housing regulations, including notice requirements, security deposit accounting, damage assessments, and final charges.
- Assist onsite teams with questions regarding HUD and LIHTC compliance procedures, required documentation, and company policies.
- Train and coach onsite employees on compliance processes, certification paperwork, and required documentation standards.
- Monitor certification workflows and internal compliance reports to help ensure applications, certifications, and recertifications are completed accurately and on schedule.
- Assist with maintaining compliance tracking systems and internal reports.
- Conduct onsite file audits and quality assurance reviews in preparation for HUD, state agency, investor, or internal compliance audits.
- Identify trends, recurring deficiencies, and opportunities for process improvement, and communicate findings to the Compliance Officer.
- Assist in developing and updating compliance forms, checklists, and procedural guides.
- Attend state and national affordable housing compliance training as directed.
- Perform other administrative and compliance-related duties assigned by the Compliance Officer.
The successful candidate will:
Become a trusted resource for onsite property teams. Help maintain a portfolio that consistently passes internal and external compliance reviews. Build expertise in HUD and LIHTC affordable housing regulations. Communicate professionally with property staff, regulatory agencies, and third-party compliance partners. Identify potential compliance issues before they become audit findings. Continuously improve compliance processes through organization, accuracy, and attention to detail.QUALIFICATIONS
Required- High school diploma or equivalent
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook)
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines
- Strong math and analytical skills
- Ability to maintain confidentiality Preferred
- Experience in affordable housing, property management, or compliance
