The University of Montana invites applications for a Research Training Compliance Officer for the Research and Creative Scholarship-Office of Sponsored Programs . Reporting to the Director of the Office of Sponsored Programs, the Research Training Compliance Officer (RTCO) is responsible for supporting the University of Montana's research enterprise across all activity types, including internally and externally funded and unfunded research. The RTCO ensures institutional compliance with applicable federal, state, and university regulations and policies by developing, implementing, and maintaining comprehensive research compliance training and education programs and ensuring that required personnel complete and maintain necessary training and certifications. The RTCO collaborates closely with the Office of Research Compliance, the Office of Sponsored Programs, Internal Audit, and other administrative units, and works in partnership with the Associate Vice President for Research Compliance and Technology Transfer. The position integrates training, compliance monitoring, and policy support functions to promote a culture of research integrity and regulatory adherence across the institution. Design, implement, and maintain comprehensive research compliance training programs for faculty, staff, students, and administrators across all regulatory areas Develop, deliver, and continuously improve educational content, including classroom instruction, workshops, outreach programs, and online training materials Provide guidance and support to researchers and teams on compliance requirements, including responsible conduct of research, research security, export control, privacy, financial conflicts of interest, and international activities Serve as a primary administrator for research compliance training systems and platforms, including tracking training completion, maintaining databases, and managing third-party training tools Monitor, interpret, and apply federal, state, and international research regulations and translate requirements into institutional policies, procedures, and training content Conduct compliance oversight activities, including reviews, audits, monitoring, and follow-up actions related to research protocols, disclosures, and sponsored programs Review and process financial conflict of interest disclosures and ensure compliance with applicable institutional and federal regulations Develop, maintain, and update institutional policies, SOPs, training materials, and related compliance documentation in collaboration with subject matter experts, while collecting and analyzing training and compliance data to evaluate program effectiveness and inform continuous improvement Master's Degree in a relevant field, such as: ethics, education, science, or related area) Minimum three (3) years of experience in research compliance, research administration or related training and education roles Knowledge of institutional research oversight (IRB, IACUC, IBC) and federal regulations (Common Rule, PHS, FDA, USDA) Familiarity with research ethics, regulatory requirements, and best practices in responsible conduct of research Experience in developing and delivering training and education programs Strong project management, communication, and presentation skills Ability to work collaboratively in a cross-functional team environment in the Office of Research and Creative Scholarship Experience conducting audits or compliance reviews is an asset Preferred Qualifications Experience in research administration or related higher education environments, with familiarity in sponsored research regulations Strong project management, organizational, and training skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet tight deadlines Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to interact effectively and diplomatically with individuals at all organizational levels Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and general Mac/PC environments, along with related technical and software tools Experience using digital tools and platforms such as content management systems, AI-assisted tools, and training or design software Position is full-time, 1.0 FTE, MUS Contract and includes a comprehensive and competitive benefits package including insurance package, mandatory retirement plan, partial tuition waiver, and wellness program.
