We provide quality investigative services and strive to deter discrimination and harassment, unsafe child labor, paid sick leave violations, and unfair wage practices for New Mexico workers. Why does the job exist? The Department of Workforce Solutions Wage and Hour Associate Compliance Officer is an entry-level position focused on developing foundational investigative skills under close supervision with little decision-making authority and frequent review of work. The position is responsible for promoting the welfare of New Mexico's workforce by enforcing the New Mexico Minimum Wage Act and the New Mexico Wage Payment Act. This role requires the development of skills necessary to conduct impartial investigations of the Bureau's lowest complexity wage claims (e.g. single witness files, claims for final paychecks, claims with minimal documentation requiring review, and claims spanning brief periods of time). How does it get done? After completing investigations, draft administrative decisions that are based on the facts and the law, and which follow Division guidelines, exhibit professionalism and neutrality, and are well written. Maintain careful, accurate, and neat electronic records of case-related activities and documents. Pay close attention to the statutes and regulations that govern our work, and adhere closely to the Division's standard operating procedures when performing investigatory duties. Organize one's caseload to be able to process cases thoroughly and efficiently, being sure not to miss any critical deadlines. Communicate regularly and professionally with constituents and coworkers, always striving to provide the best possible customer service and foster a positive working environment. Assist the Division with additional tasks related to program administration outreach internal process improvement Who are the customers? Accordingly, the Compliance Officers work with and for the Division Director and Deputy Director, Supervisors, other Compliance Officers, Division support staff, the Legal department, constituents, and other stakeholders of the LRD. Ideal Candidate Accordingly, the Compliance Officers work with and for the Division Director and Deputy Director, Supervisors, other Compliance Officers, Division support staff, the Legal department, constituents, and other stakeholders of the LRD. Minimum Qualification High School Diploma or equivalent and six (6) months of experience in investigations, regulation, policy, statutory, and/or contract compliance. Any combination of education from an accredited college or university in a related field and/or direct experience in this occupation totaling six (6) months may substitute for the required experience. Employment Requirements Must possess and maintain a valid Driver's License and a current Defensive Driving Course Certificate (DDC) from the State of New Mexico. Must possess DDC within six (6) months of date of hire as a condition of continued employment. Working Conditions Work is performed in an office setting with exposure to Visual/Video Display Terminal (VDT) and extensive personal computer and phone usage. Employee may regularly sit, stand, walk, and lift up to 25 pounds. Due to use of office equipment such as computer, phone, and printer, repetitive hand movement is common.
