Job Description

The City of Lancaster, Texas is seeking a knowledgeable, dependable, and community-focused professional to serve as Senior Code Compliance Officer within the Neighborhood Services Department. The Senior Code Compliance Officer performs code compliance inspections and investigations involving residential, commercial, and industrial properties while helping ensure City codes and community standards are enforced fairly, professionally, and consistently. This position also serves in a lead capacity by assisting with staff assignments, monitoring performance, conducting quality checks, and supporting the daily coordination of Code Compliance Officers. Key responsibilities include conducting property inspections; investigating citizen complaints and potential code violations; serving as the lead staff member for commercial code enforcement; enforcing applicable IPMC standards; addressing abandoned signs and property maintenance concerns; identifying nuisances, trash, debris, sewage, and other unsanitary conditions; and preparing notices, citations, correspondence, reports, and other enforcement documentation. The position regularly interacts with residents, property owners, businesses, and other stakeholders to respond to concerns and explain code requirements and corrective actions. The Senior Code Compliance Officer maintains complete and accurate case records, documents inspection and enforcement activities, and may testify in court regarding code compliance violations. This position is ideal for an experienced Code Compliance Officer who is comfortable working independently in the field, providing guidance to other officers, handling challenging situations professionally, and helping maintain safe, attractive, and well-maintained neighborhoods and commercial areas throughout Lancaster.
Qualifications:
High school diploma or GED required. Supervisory experience required. Candidates should possess the knowledge, skills, and ability necessary to conduct residential, commercial, and industrial code compliance inspections and investigations; investigate citizen complaints; identify potential code violations; prepare notices, citations, correspondence, and reports; maintain accurate case documentation; and communicate code requirements and corrective actions clearly and professionally. The successful candidate should be comfortable working in the field, interacting with residents, property owners, businesses, and other stakeholders, responding to citizen concerns, supporting the daily coordination of Code Compliance Officers, assigning officers to designated districts, monitoring performance, and conducting quality checks. The position requires the ability to maintain accurate records, use computer systems related to code enforcement activities, and testify in court when necessary regarding code compliance violations. Availability for emergency and after-hours inspections may be required. A valid Texas Class C Driver s License is required. Current certification as a Registered Code Compliance Officer in the State of Texas is required.
