High school diploma or GED; two years of experience in secretarial work; or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Excellent oral/written communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to read, walk or stand for several hours at a time; and must be able to differentiate shapes and colors on a monitor. Working knowledge of Sheriff's Office policies and procedures and federal, state, and local laws, policies, and procedures. Current valid driver's license and good driving record required. Based on the Virginia DMV point system, records must not reflect a total of six or more demerit points within the twenty-four months preceding the anticipated hire date, or one major violation of six demerit points within the preceding thirty-six months. Out-of-state driving records must be obtained by applicant and presented at time of interview. Records must reflect at least three years of history and be dated within thirty days of interview date. (Driving records are checked as a condition of employment.) Pre-employment drug testing, FBI criminal background check (to include polygraph examination), and education/degree verification required. This position is considered Critical Safety Sensitive and is subject to random drug and alcohol testing. The use of medical marijuana for this position is prohibited. This position is subject to working in high security areas governed by the US Department of Justice's "Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) Security Policy" and therefore requires successfully passing of a more stringent criminal background check. This is a part-time position located in a secured jail facility. This is a daytime position responsible for receiving and forwarding incoming telephone calls, maintaining inmate accounts, sorting and distribution of paperwork, dissemination of reports, and maintaining paperwork needs for both Jail Administration and Classification. Performs other work as required. This position is a part of an approved Career Development Plan (CDP) and offers career progression opportunities and salary incentives, as funding permits, based on performance, qualifications, and experience. 28 hours/week; Monday - Friday between 8:30 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. Sheriff
