A Credit or Loan Counselor advises and educates individuals or organizations on acquiring and managing debt or qualifying for traditional loans. Guidance may include determining the best type of loan and explaining loan requirements or restrictions. May help develop debt management or credit issue plans. Can provide budget, mortgage or bankruptcy counseling.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES
Ensure compliance with Credit Union policies, procedures, and communication standards across all channels, upholding core values, security, confidentiality, and Standards of Conduct. Verify identity and signatures for transactions, mitigating loss by asking clarifying questions. Adhere to all check cashing procedures. Processes member transactions accurately and efficiently. Process IRA deposits and basic withdrawals. Create transfer files for all accounts. Process requests for money orders, cashier's checks, gift cards and check orders. Assist with member access to the safe deposit boxes, online banking, and the CUphone. Process and verify wires. Assist members with account research requests. Retrieve and process transactions from the night depository. Load, balance and maintain TCR machines. Prepare, cash-load, and balance ATMs on a weekly basis and assist with balancing of vault coin. Perform account updates; scan and maintain document records. Process VISA payments. Close accounts in accordance with procedures. Perform account re-indexing. Understand card management basics including Card Control level I and II as well as Relationship Manager. Engage in Credit Union fundraising, membership drives, and community activities. Engage in learning and ongoing training with a proactive, receptive approach.

Broad knowledge of, and practical experience with, credit union or other financial institution operating areas, functions, products and services. Thorough understanding of, and ability to interpret all laws and regulations which apply to credit unions.
