Essential Functions:
Responsible for overseeing and supporting the accurate, timely, and compliant clearance of imported merchandise through U.S. Customs and Border Protection. This position serves as a subject-matter resource for customs regulations, classification, valuation, entry requirements, and compliance while working closely with clients, carriers, government agencies, and internal operations teams.
Duties:
Prepare, review, and/or oversee customs entries and supporting documentation to ensure accuracy and compliance with CBP requirements. Classify merchandise accurately using the Harmonized Tariff Schedule. Review commercial invoices, packing lists, bills of lading, and other documentation for completeness and accuracy. Determine and verify applicable duties, taxes, fees, and other government charges. Review customs entry documentation and identify discrepancies or potential compliance concerns before submission. Communicate with CBP, Partner Government Agencies (PGAs), importers, exporters, carriers, and other parties as necessary to resolve customs-related issues. Assist with post-entry activities, including entry corrections, protests, reconciliation, duty refunds, etc. Stay current on customs regulations, tariff classifications, trade programs, and government requirements. Provide guidance and support to Customs Brokerage Specialists, Coordinators, and other team members regarding customs procedures and regulations. Assist with training and development of brokerage staff on customs regulations, classification, documentation, and compliance procedures. Assist with internal and external customs compliance reviews and audits. Provide knowledgeable and professional customer service while maintaining appropriate customs compliance standards. Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the owners.
Education and Experience:
Active U.S. Customs Broker License 5+ years of experience in customs brokerage, customs compliance or related import role. BS/BA degree preferred but not required.
