Job Description
Role Overview We are currently looking for a seasoned Customs Brokerage Manager to direct our entire customs brokerage department. You will act as the main representative for interactions with U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP), our clientele, and various internal departments. To succeed, you must possess extensive knowledge of CBP rules, HTS classification, trade compliance, and Foreign Trade Zone (FTZ) management, backed by a history of successful leadership in a supervisory role. Core Duties Operational Oversight and Compliance Direct daily brokerage activities to guarantee that all entry filings are submitted precisely and on schedule per CBP guidelines. Determine HTS classifications, valuations, and admissibility to ensure all shipments meet regulatory standards. Act as the lead point of contact for CBP officials, government agencies, clients, and internal partners. Maintain strict adherence to all relevant trade laws, international agreements, and regulatory mandates. Track changes in trade regulations and update internal processes to help maintain a compliant environment for the entire organization. Foreign Trade Zone (FTZ) Management Supervise all aspects of FTZ compliance, including the management of zone admissions, inventory transfers, and documentation. Draft and file necessary FTZ reports for both the Commerce Department and CBP. Perform internal reviews and manage the documentation required for FTZ activation and ongoing procedures. Team Leadership Lead and mentor the brokerage staff, handling recruitment, professional development, and performance evaluations. Establish clear performance metrics and accountability systems to help the team consistently achieve high service standards. Cultivate a workplace environment that prioritizes precision, speed, and regulatory mastery. Client and Stakeholder Engagement Cultivate lasting client partnerships by offering expert advice on customs procedures and effective trade compliance strategies. Address CBP inquiries, audits, and information requests with accuracy and promptness. Collaborate with sales and operations departments to facilitate the smooth integration of new clients and trade routes. Essential Qualifications Active U.S. Customs Broker License. At least 5 years of professional experience within customs brokerage. Minimum of 2 years in a management or supervisory position within the logistics, freight forwarding, or brokerage sectors. Comprehensive understanding of CBP regulations, ACE filing, HTS classification, and general import/export compliance. Practical experience managing FTZ reporting, compliance, and zone operations. Technical proficiency in customs software like Descartes, Customs City, or similar systems. Strong organizational abilities and the capacity to manage multiple high-priority tasks to ensure operational efficiency. Desired Qualifications Possession of a Certified Export Specialist (CES) or Certified Customs Specialist (CCS) credential. Background working with ISA, C-TPAT, or other similar trade partnership initiatives. Bilingual proficiency in Spanish and English is considered an asset. Previous experience working within an asset-based carrier or 3PL environment.
