Job Description
Position Overview A growing, privately held multi-entity organization is seeking an experienced Director of Finance and Accounting to oversee financial operations, accounting, reporting, controls, and planning across several affiliated businesses. This is a hands-on leadership position. The Director of Finance and Accounting will be responsible for ensuring the accuracy of financial information, improving financial processes, managing cash flow, and giving ownership clear insight into the performance of each entity. The right candidate will be comfortable moving between high-level financial planning and detailed accounting work. This person must be willing to investigate discrepancies, improve systems, and establish a strong financial structure that can support continued growth. Key Responsibilities Oversee accounting and financial operations across multiple legal entities Prepare and review monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements Maintain accurate reporting for each entity and consolidated reporting for ownership Manage cash flow, working capital, budgets, and financial forecasts Oversee the monthly closing and account reconciliation process Develop financial dashboards and key performance indicators Establish internal controls, approval procedures, and reporting standards Monitor revenue, expenses, margins, inventory, and profitability Reconcile intercompany transactions, shared expenses, and related accounts Evaluate financial performance by entity, location, department, and revenue stream Oversee accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll reporting, and banking activity Coordinate with outside accountants, tax professionals, lenders, and other professional advisors Lead annual budgeting and ongoing forecasting Assist ownership in evaluating investments, expansion opportunities, and major business decisions Manage banking relationships, credit facilities, and other financing arrangements Identify financial risks, unnecessary expenses, and opportunities to improve profitability Ensure financial records are complete, organized, accurate, and audit-ready Build and supervise an internal accounting and finance team as needed Present regular financial reports, findings, and recommendations directly to ownership Required Qualifications At least five years of progressive accounting or financial management experience Previous experience as a Finance Director, Controller, Accounting Manager, or similar financial leader Experience overseeing multiple entities, locations, or business units Strong understanding of financial statements, cash flow, budgeting, forecasting, and internal controls Experience managing month-end close and account reconciliations Knowledge of GAAP and standard accounting practices Experience working with banks, commercial lenders, and outside accounting firms Ability to identify discrepancies and explain financial information clearly Advanced Excel or Google Sheets skills Experience with modern accounting and financial reporting systems High level of integrity, confidentiality, organization, and accountability Ability to work directly with ownership in a fast-moving environment Willingness to personally investigate and resolve financial issues Preferred Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field CPA, CMA, or MBA preferred, but not required Experience with multi-entity accounting and consolidated financial reporting Experience improving or rebuilding accounting processes Experience supporting a growing privately held organization Familiarity with intercompany accounting and multi-state operations Experience helping an organization through expansion, acquisitions, or periods of rapid growth Ideal Candidate The ideal candidate is analytical, organized, and highly accountable. This person can help ownership evaluate major financial decisions while also ensuring that reconciliations, financial statements, and supporting records are accurate. The successful candidate will be comfortable entering an evolving organization, creating structure, improving accountability, and building a dependable finance and accounting function.
