Job Description

We are looking for an experienced Senior Controller to lead core accounting operations and provide reliable financial insight for the organization in Salinas, California. This role partners closely with accounting leadership and cross-functional managers to strengthen reporting accuracy, maintain effective controls, and support sound financial decision-making. The ideal candidate brings strong technical accounting knowledge, leadership capability, and the ability to manage deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
Responsibilities:
  • Produce accurate financial statements on a regular schedule and deliver reporting that reflects the company's current and projected financial position.
  • Partner with the Director of Accounting & Tax and business leaders to maintain consistent accounting procedures, strengthen controls, and ensure established workflows are followed.
  • Lead, mentor, and develop accounting team members while overseeing the quality, timeliness, and efficiency of daily and monthly work.
  • Manage monthly consolidated reporting, including elimination entries, balance sheet reconciliations, and support for the month-end close process.
  • Support the annual budgeting cycle by preparing allocations, building operating budget schedules, and maintaining financial statement presentation formats.
  • Oversee fixed asset records and ensure supporting schedules remain current, organized, and aligned with financial reporting needs.
  • Prepare and file required tax-related reports, including quarterly and annual sales and use tax filings, annual reporting forms, and backup support for accounts payable reporting requirements such as 1099 processing.
  • Review accounts receivable activity, investigate variances, and communicate concerns or unusual trends to accounting leadership.
  • Prepare general ledger entries, analyze financial data across cost centers, assemble audit and review support schedules, and collaborate with IT on system issue resolution and testing during application upgrades.
  • Represent the organization professionally and ethically in interactions with employees, agencies, customers, growers, and other stakeholders while maintaining confidentiality of sensitive financial information.
