Job Description

Job Summary The Port of Stockton is seeking an experienced, collaborative, and business-minded financial leader to serve as its next Director of Accounting . Job Description Reporting directly to the Deputy Port Director of Administration, this executive-level position oversees the Port's accounting, budgeting, financial reporting, forecasting, investments, cash and debt management, auditing, and procurement functions, while serving as a key financial advisor to executive leadership and the Board of Port Commissioners. The successful candidate will join the Port during a period of significant organizational investment and growth, including implementation of a $238.8 million five-year Capital Improvement Plan and continued optimization of its Tyler ERP system. Requirements The ideal candidate will bring substantial public-sector financial experience, strong technical expertise, sound judgment, business acumen, and a collaborative leadership style. The Port is looking for someone who is analytical, curious, solution-oriented, comfortable questioning established practices, and able to balance strong financial controls with responsive internal customer service. Candidates should have at least eight years of progressively responsible accounting experience , including five years at the management level or higher, and a bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or a closely related field. Additional Information The salary range is $183,120 to $242,520 annually , with starting salary based on experience and qualifications. The Port offers a comprehensive benefits package currently valued at approximately 47% of wages, including a 401(a) retirement plan with a 15% Port contribution and immediate vesting.
