Job Description

Corporate Accounting Controller Western is seeking an experienced and strategic Accounting Controller to oversee the full-cycle corporate accounting function for our multi-reporting unit family enterprise based in Denver, Colorado. The ideal candidate will bring a strong foundation in US GAAP, experience managing accounting operations in a multi-entity environment, and a proactive mindset for process optimization, system utilization, and communication. This role will lead a small team, ensure accurate and timely financial close and financial reporting, and drive continuous improvement of accounting processes.   • Manage completeness and accuracy of annual financial data set to include general ledger, chart of accounts, timely processing of transactions, annual, quarterly, and monthly account reconciliation and analysis, and financial statement review
  • Build efficiencies in accounting processes and utilization of Microsoft Dynamics GP software across cycles and across reporting units to streamline and standardize accounting and financial management of the combined enterprise
  • Develop business cases to support pricing decisions and create innovative strategies for cost reduction
  • Improve fiscal health with thorough analyses of financial data: develop deep, actionable insights to drive business performance by monitoring variances and identifying trends
  • Partner with and serve as a resource for members of the accounting and finance team as well as the reporting unit personnel to strengthen reliability of the accounting and finance function as a whole at the company
  • Together with other members of the corporate accounting team, improve close timeliness to 15-day cycle
  • Manage projects as needed including accounting for potential business changes Responsibilities
  • Oversee day-to-day accounting operations, including bank reconciliations, order to cash, procure to pay, fixed asset management, debt service, lease amortization, and accruals and allocations including payroll, benefits, taxes, insurance, and shareholder balances
  • Ensure work performed leads to an accurate and timely close of each month for management reporting and analysis
  • Manage and mentor a small team of accountants, providing leadership, training, and performance review and development
  • Maintain uniformity of the chart of accounts across 15 reporting units so as to provide consistent rollup to monthly internal financial statements, trends, projections, and external financial statements
  • Implement and maintain internal controls and accounting policies to ensure alignment with US GAAP and accuracy of financial information
  • Drive process improvement initiatives to streamline workflows, improve reporting accuracy, and enhance efficiency
  • Coordinate with external auditors, tax preparers, and banking and insurance partners as needed and support the internal and external accounting and tax compliance function
  • Ensure compliance with state and local tax regulations
  • Prepare journal entries and ensure transactions are recorded, documented, reviewed, and supported in accordance with US GAAP, internal controls, and company policies
  • Prepare and review account reconciliations and resolve reconciling items
  • Review subledgers and oversee their maintenance and reconciliation as well as analysis of reserves as necessary
  • Prepare and distribute a report of working capital to the executive team on a daily basis
  • Other duties as assigned
Pay:
$90,000 annually, depending on experience (DOE). Required skills and qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
  • 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, with at least 2 years in a leadership or managerial role
  • Strong knowledge of full-cycle accounting and
U.S. GAAP
  • Proven ability to lead and develop a team
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and oral and written communication skills
  • Excel proficiency
  • Demonstrated success in process improvement and implementing best practices in accounting operations
  • Self-starter who works well independently and in a team environment Preferred skills and qualifications
  • CPA or CMA preferred
  • Experience in a transportation, manufacturing, or multi-location environment highly preferred
  • Deep experience with Microsoft Dynamics GP desired
