Back Controller / Interim Controller Chicago , Illinois Temp Per Hour Oct 7, 2026 $75.00 - $85.00 Interim Controller A private equity-backed technology company is seeking an experienced Interim Controller to lead day-to-day accounting operations and support the organization through a period of growth and transition. This role will oversee the monthly close, financial reporting, revenue recognition, and core accounting functions while managing a small accounting team. Key Responsibilities Lead and manage the monthly and quarterly financial close process. Oversee preparation and review of journal entries, account reconciliations, accruals, and other accounting activities. Manage revenue recognition and ensure compliance with applicable accounting standards. Oversee accounts payable and accounts receivable processes. Prepare and review monthly financial statements and management reporting. Maintain strong accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls. Manage, mentor, and provide direction to a small accounting team. Partner with Finance and business leadership on financial analysis, reporting, and accounting matters. Support external reporting, audit activities, and other finance initiatives as needed. Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes, systems, and controls. Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field. 7+ years of progressive accounting experience, including experience in a Controller or senior accounting role. Experience within a software, SaaS, or technology company is required. Strong understanding of revenue recognition and accrual-based accounting. Experience managing the month-end close and financial reporting process. Previous experience managing or mentoring accounting staff. Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP and financial reporting. Experience working in a private equity-backed or high-growth environment is highly desirable. CPA is a plus. Strong analytical, organizational, communication, and leadership skills. Ability to operate effectively in a hands-on, fast-paced environment.
