Monday-Friday Position Overview:
We are seeking an experienced CPA / Controller to oversee accounting operations, tax compliance, financial reporting, and internal accounting processes. This position requires a strong background in public accounting and taxation, along with the ability to manage complex accounting functions, supervise staff, and work closely with the Chief Financial Officer on tax planning, reporting, and financial projects. The ideal candidate is highly organized, analytical, and able to work independently while managing multiple priorities and deadlines. Experience with oil and gas accounting is preferred.
Responsibilities:
Maintain accurate books, records, general ledger accounts, and supporting documentation. Manage intercompany accounts payable and accounts receivable. Maintain a calendar of required tax filings, payments, and compliance deadlines. Review company deposits, disbursements, and other financial transactions. Review internal rebilling activity and joint owner statements for accuracy. Review journal entries and general ledger reconciliations. Prepare and/or review monthly and year-end closing processes. Prepare and file sales tax, excise tax, ad valorem tax, household payroll, and aviation fuel dealer returns. Review year-end reporting forms, including 1099s and household W-2s. Reconcile 1099 reporting to the company's accounting records. Prepare company budgets and communicate financial information with company members. Identify accounting issues as they arise and assist with developing and implementing appropriate solutions. Supervise, train, and provide guidance to accounting staff. Assist the Chief Financial Officer with year-end tax workpapers, including depreciation and depletion schedules. Assist with the review of tax returns and preparation of information needed for quarterly tax estimates. Support the CFO with special accounting, tax, and financial projects as needed. Perform additional duties as assigned.
Education & Experience:
Bachelor's degree in Accounting is required. Active CPA license is required. Minimum of 10 years of public accounting experience with a focus on taxation, or a combination of public accounting and corporate/industry accounting experience with a taxation focus, is required. Previous management or supervisory experience is preferred.
Special Knowledge/Skills:
Proficiency with Microsoft Office products, particularly Microsoft Excel. Ability to work independently with a high degree of accuracy and organization. Ability to manage multiple projects, priorities, and deadlines. Ability to handle confidential financial and tax information with professionalism and discretion. Understanding of oil and gas accounting is preferred. Experience using large language models such as ChatGPT or Claude to improve productivity, automate routine tasks, and enhance analysis is desirable, but not required.

$100,000.00 - $120,000.00 per year
