  • Full-time Walters Recycling & Refuse is seeking a strategic, hands-on Director of Finance & Accounting to lead our accounting and finance functions.
This role is responsible for financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, financial planning and analysis, cash flow management, and continuous improvement initiatives. The Director will partner closely with executive leadership and department managers to turn financial information into actionable insights that support profitability, operational efficiency, and long-term growth. About Walters Walters is the premier environmental services provider in the Twin Cities metropolitan area, providing waste and recycling collection to the public and private sectors since 1988. As the largest family-owned and operated waste and recycling provider in Minnesota, Walters provides more than 100,000 services each week with a fleet fueled by both diesel and compressed natural gas. What You'll Do Lead the Accounting Department and ensure accurate, timely monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes. Review financial statements, supporting schedules, and key reporting packages before CFO review. Lead budgeting, forecasting, long-range financial planning, and financial modeling. Develop dashboards, KPIs, and analysis to support route profitability, customer profitability, pricing, and operational performance. Prepare cash flow forecasts, monitor working capital, and support capital planning and fleet investment analysis. Partner with leaders across Finance, Operations, HR, Customer Service, and IT to improve processes, systems, reporting, and decision making. Maintain strong internal controls and ensure compliance with GAAP, company policies, and applicable reporting requirements. What We're Looking For Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field. 8+ years of progressive accounting and finance experience. 5+ years of leadership experience. Strong knowledge of GAAP, financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, and internal controls. Advanced Microsoft Excel skills and experience with ERP or accounting systems. Strong analytical, communication, leadership, and cross-functional collaboration skills. CPA, CMA, MBA, Power BI experience, or experience in transportation, waste, logistics, or another capital-intensive industry preferred. Why Join Walters? Competitive wages based on experience.
