Job Description
Job Summary Our company owns and manages a growing residential portfolio of approximately 3,000 units across New Jersey and Florida. We're a hands-on, lean, owner-operated real estate company looking to bring on a Controller to build out and lead our accounting and financial reporting function as we continue to scale. We're looking for an experienced Controller to take ownership of accounting operations across our multi-state portfolio. This is a highly visible role reporting directly to ownership you'll be the senior finance voice in the company, responsible for the accuracy, timeliness, and integrity of our financial reporting, cash management, and accounting controls across all entities and properties. This is an excellent opportunity for a controller who wants real ownership over the finance function and a direct line to leadership, with room to grow as the company scales. Responsibilities Own the full accounting cycle for a multi-entity, multi-state real estate portfolio (NJ and FL), including monthly, quarterly, and year-end close Prepare and deliver accurate, timely financial statements and management reporting to ownership and lenders Manage cash flow, bank reconciliations, and treasury functions across entities Oversee accounts payable, accounts receivable, and property-level accounting for ~3,000 units Maintain and strengthen internal controls, accounting policies, and procedures Manage the budgeting and forecasting process in partnership with ownership and property operations Coordinate with external CPAs/auditors on tax filings, audits, and compliance across NJ and FL Oversee CAM reconciliations, escrow/reserve accounting, and lender/investor reporting as applicable Supervise and develop accounting staff/bookkeepers as the team grows Evaluate and improve accounting systems and processes; ensure property management software (we currently use Onesite) is fully leveraged for reporting accuracy Partner directly with ownership on financial strategy, capital planning, and key business decisions Requirements Proven experience as a Controller or senior finance leader within the real estate or related industry.
