We are looking for a strategic and hands-on accounting leader to guide financial operations and ensure accurate, compliant reporting for the organization. This role will oversee core accounting activities, strengthen internal controls, and deliver timely insights that support informed business decisions. Based in Cleveland, Ohio, the Director of Accounting will also collaborate across departments to improve processes, support growth, and build a high-performing team.

Responsibilities:

• Direct the month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close processes to deliver accurate financial statements on schedule and in accordance with company policy and applicable standards.
• Oversee essential accounting functions such as the general ledger, payables, receivables, revenue accounting, and other technical or complex areas as needed.
• Evaluate financial performance, investigate variances and trends, and present meaningful analysis and recommendations to finance leadership.
• Establish, refine, and maintain accounting policies, procedures, and documentation, including adoption of updated accounting guidance when required.
• Build and monitor a strong internal control environment that protects company assets and supports reliable financial reporting.
• Coordinate audit and compliance activities by preparing documentation, supporting external reviews, and helping ensure adherence to regulatory requirements.
• Partner with finance leadership on budgeting, forecasting, and long-range planning while identifying risks, opportunities, and key performance drivers.
• Work closely with cross-functional stakeholders, including operations, sales, compliance, regulatory, IT, risk, and actuarial teams, to provide financial insight for business initiatives, pricing reviews, and reporting needs.
• Lead process improvement, automation, and financial system enhancement efforts, including support for platform upgrades such as OneStream, with a focus on efficiency, scalability, and data integrity.
• Recruit, coach, and develop accounting staff while setting clear expectations and promoting a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
