Remote Director of Accounting & Finance Location Franklin Lakes, NJ 7417 Date Posted April 28, 2026 Job ID 14491 Employment Type Contract To Hire Scion Staffing has been engaged to conduct a search for a Director of Accounting & Finance for a mission-driven, outsourced accounting firm specializing in nonprofit organizations. This is a fully remote opportunity (U.S.-based), with preference for candidates able to work East Coast hours.
POSITION OVERVIEW
The Director of Accounting & Finance will serve as a strategic leader overseeing financial operations for a portfolio of nonprofit clients while managing and mentoring an internal team. This role acts as a key advisor, guiding organizations on financial health, compliance, and long-term planning. The ideal candidate is both hands-on and strategic, with the ability to build strong client relationships while driving operational excellence.

RESPONSIBILITIES
Lead financial oversight for multiple nonprofit clients, including financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, and compliance Serve as the primary point of contact for client relationships, advising executive teams and boards on financial strategy Oversee and review monthly financial statements, audits, and regulatory filings (e.g., Form 990, 1099s) Implement and optimize accounting systems (e.g., QuickBooks Online, Bill.com) and improve financial processes and controls Manage, mentor, and develop a small team, ensuring quality, efficiency, and professional growth Support client onboarding, system integrations, and ongoing process improvements to enhance service delivery
QUALIFICATIONS
Demonstrated experience in nonprofit accounting and financial management Proven ability to manage multiple clients or projects simultaneously in a fast-paced environment Strong knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting standards Experience with QuickBooks Online, Bill.com, Excel, and similar financial systems (Fund-EZ a plus) Excellent communication and leadership skills with the ability to build trust and influence stakeholders
COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS
