Full-Time Compensation:
$85,000-$110,000 annually, depending on experience The Opportunity We are a growing privately held company in the logistics and distribution industry looking for a smart, highly motivated Business Operations & Financial Analyst to work closely with ownership and senior management. This is not a traditional corporate analyst position, and it is not simply a bookkeeping role. We are looking for someone who enjoys getting into the details of a business, understanding what the numbers are telling us, identifying problems and opportunities, and helping management make better decisions. The right person will be comfortable moving between financial analysis, operational reporting, bookkeeping/accounting support, KPI development, dashboards, and special projects. You should be naturally curious and willing to ask: Why did this number change? What is driving it? What should we do about it? What You'll Do Build and maintain weekly and monthly management reporting Analyze revenue, gross margin, operating expenses and profitability Develop and maintain KPI dashboards Analyze customer and account profitability Review labor, overtime, productivity and other operating metrics Analyze transportation, fleet, fuel and other major operating costs Assist with budgeting, forecasting and cash-flow analysis Provide bookkeeping and accounting support as needed Reconcile and validate financial and operational data Identify unusual trends, discrepancies and potential cost savings Turn raw data into useful information for management Help improve reporting processes and data accuracy Work with management to develop better tools for measuring business performance Assist with special projects, acquisitions and business analysis Become a trusted analytical resource to ownership What We're Looking For We're less interested in a perfect résumé than we are in finding someone with the right combination of intelligence, curiosity, work ethic and judgment.
The ideal candidate will have:
3+ years of experience in financial analysis, business analysis, accounting, operations analysis or a related role Strong Excel and/or Google Sheets skills Working knowledge of accounting and financial statements Experience with bookkeeping and reconciliations Strong analytical and problem-solving ability Comfort working with large amounts of financial and operational data Experience building reports and dashboards Strong technology aptitude Excellent attention to detail Ability to work independently without needing constant direction Ability to communicate findings clearly to senior management A willingness to challenge numbers that don't make sense Experience with Metabase, SQL, QuickBooks, logistics, transportation, distribution or warehousing is a plus, but not required. The Person We're Looking For You may be a financial analyst who wants more exposure to the actual operation of a business. You may be an accountant who is more interested in analyzing the business than simply closing the books. Or you may be an operations analyst who understands financials and enjoys figuring out how to make a company perform better. Regardless of your background, you should be entrepreneurial, resourceful and comfortable working in a fast-moving privately held business. This role will have significant exposure to ownership and an opportunity to grow as the company grows. Work Environment This is a hybrid position based in the Northeast Bay Area . Candidates must live within reasonable commuting distance and be available to work onsite regularly. The position also provides flexibility to work remotely when appropriate. This is a full-time position. How to Apply Please submit your résumé along with a brief explanation of why this particular role interests you. We are especially interested in hearing about a situation where you used financial or operational data to identify a problem, uncover an opportunity, or recommend a change to management.
